After a lifetime of VW Bugs, now I’ve added a Bus to the lineup.

77 Bay Window factory Automatic. OG paint.

It has a Wagenswest Slambay suspension. The dual carb 2L pushes it down the road pretty darn good. I was surprised being an Automatic. Runs and shifts great. I need to raise the front just a tad (rubs when while family is in it).

I’m stoked. Really digging the classic 70s vibe.

I could use a break from winter here. ( northern vt)

How far are you from st pete? My daughter is at Eckard college.

Could maybe tie a visit to her with building your garage .

Just a thought.

Tom, I am really happy for you. I think that bus would be perfect for almost anyone but... um... well...

O.k. I didn't want to be the one, but everyone was just standing around with their hands in their pockets and staring at the ground. I'll just come right out with it -

How will you be getting to the wheel wells on this dub? Laughing

Love the slammed loaf. Enjoy!

Bwaaahahaha. Well, I’ve crawled around looking under it. Factory paint and in pretty good shape. Think I’ll just leave it alone. Too many ideas flying around for the interior.

So the bus has a Wagenswest adjustable beam on front. It was so low in front that if anyone else was in it the passenger side rubbed bad. And it was a hassle driving with dips in the road.

So I got unde there and raised it a couple inches. The locking plate was crooked which explains the passenger side rubbing.

It’s still slightly lower in front than back, but now I can pile family or friends in it and drive worry free anywhere. Which is why I wanted a bus. Super fun to drive now. Laughing

It's still plenty low for the cruise after you put the groceries away. Cool

Thanks. I agree, the original dealer installed stripes and the classic 70s style 5-slot wheels really set it off perfectly. I can’t take credit, but the previous owner really chose the perfect wheels. I can’t think of any other wheels that would be as good for this bus.

At some point I may put the same size tires on front as is on the back. With it raised up I may not need the smaller tires in front. Don’t know yet. Just gonna roll the small ones for now.

I found a bag with a curtain in it under the front seat. I installed a few snaps and now have the front curtain for camping installed.

The 3-speed automatic trans has started acting up. When it's cold reverse won't engage. I push it back and it goes in drive fine. Then won't shift into 3rd for a mile or so through the neighborhood. Once it does it drives and shifts beautifully.

I've ordered a new screen filter and pan seal. Going to replace that and the ATF and see if that does the trick. This bus hadn't been driven a whole lot for a while and now that I'm driving it a bunch the screen may have gotten gunked up.

The dual webers need the jetting tweaked and dialed in. Our local VW shop dude specializes in this, so I'm just going to have him put his magic touch on it within the next week.

I'll report back once it's done.

Carbs have been stripped, rebuilt, re-jetted, and new linkage. New fuel pump, trans serviced, etc.

Bus is running great. The trans has improved but still has the same issues. I’ll probably have it rebuilt at some point.

The solenoid on the starter is a little sticky. I’ll pull it off and clean/lube the solenoid.

I bolted the middle seat down but I turned it backwards where both rear seats face the fold out table. Great for hanging out at car shows. I’ve ordered new seat covers for the middle seat to match the others.

I’m pondering options for the headliner. I’ve got a creative idea...just gotta do it.

I’m also going to make longer wood slats to extend the roof rack.

I’m really enjoying the bus immensely. So much more than I even anticipated. I’m wondering why it took me 20 years of messing with Bugs to finally get a Bus.

“Day-camping” at car shows in the Bus. I already had this canopy and it works great either behind or beside the bus.
