Not sure of the year or model breaks but left handed threads were used so that any "loose" nuts tightened themselves instead of spinning off.

Look at the nut. Now look at the wheel hub turning in the forward direction. Imagine the wheel hub is trying to spin off the nut. The direction the hub turns the nut will be the tighten direction.
So, right hand side tightens clockwise, Right hand thread.
Left hand side tightens counter clockwise, or left hand thread. _________________ .ssS! |

Indeed. Takes me a minute, but I'm with you now...
I've got a couple pair of Bus nuts coming off of eBay... At $10 per pair (L+R) & free shipping,
four "mixed nuts" was cheaper that anyplace I could find just 2 of the RH nuts... <shrug>

I figure I'll post up the spare LHT's in the classifieds here once I verify which is which...

Full disclosure: I'm sure I've been nutty since long before my dad posted
a package label like this on the door of our childhood home [no relation]:

PS: Don't get me started on seized nuts...

In an effort to save 1000 words, I offer a pictorial representation of the "best" of the four I received:
Needless to say, these are already returned & I have the MB nuts ordered instead...

Just to be clear - you bought cheap ebay nuts and not Mercedes genuine nuts? We appreciate the info, but just want to be clear. _________________ Brandon

My first order was the cheap worthless eBay nuts pictured above (also linked to a few posts above that)...^^^
I looked them over, returned them immediately and now have the MB nuts coming on separate order.
Shoulda done that the first time, but sometimes I'm a slow learner...

I ordered the MB ones too. After setting my new bearings in the new hubs on my big brake install, and putting the wheels back on I have a bit more play than I'm comfortable with, so I need to snug them up a little. I didn't like the original design nuts anyway. _________________ 1987 Westfalia 2.1 WBX Manual |

Sounds like they just keep shipping the returned crap out time and time again hoping to find someone who will round file them verses return them. Hope people are giving negative feedback on this product, live may depend on it. |

I remember this thread, buying the nuts, taking them to Fastenal, getting the right bolts, and putting them .... somewhere. (NOT ON THE SPINDLES)

Ya Know, we could all just stock up, move earth, and build Westyville.
Sane people need not apply.

Well, I scratched around, and dug and dug, and didn't find 'em ... so, I just ordered another set. Not too worried, there are 4 front end jobs needing done in my yard, and only one is Flossie. I got to get my work space sorted out THIS SUMMER!!!! _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

It only took me five months to understand, so thankfully I don't have your problem.

Could be handy, but thought it illegal.

Those have been on my list for far too long and are almost identical to the rear axle retainers on race karts (though that takes 2-5 of them).
Awesome. Where'd ya get 'em? _________________ ‘84 Westy, 2.1L with Digijet, 5.43 R+P, GT Gears
