I am putting my 1956 convertible 36hp engine together and the distributor was in pieces,
But I am not sure what the model is: I have looked at Glenns webpage and I don't see this one.
The part numbers look like a Bus... 211.....
I am guessing it would work.
the part number on the vacuum advance is 211...
this shows the 211 part number as well.
and, where do these 2 washers go, they appear to be nylon, I am thinking under the points or under the base of the points (wrong name I know).

What you have there is a Garbe Lahmeyer distributor not Bosch. They were originally installed on Buses starting in 1955 with a mechanical advance, thus the 211 part numbers all over it. It wa used sporadically throughout the 1960’s not just 1965 on all VW models especially on domestic production. It’s probably not a good match for a 36 hp. Yours is not one of the adjustable later versions. There are five phenolic shims, one on each side of the cam as it passes through the housing, one on each side of the condenser through bolt as it passes through the housing and one between the two halves of the points where the brass post is. _________________ Roads Scholar &

You would be better off with a Bosch VJ4BR8 or 0231 129 019. They are the same.
They are mechanical only and used on 99% of the VW Buses. Tuneup parts are readily available. _________________ Glenn

The "019" typically sells at a premium price, better to source a VJ 4 BR 8. _________________ Roads Scholar &

The O P is working with a convertible. The stock distributor would have been a VJU 4 BR 8 with vacuum advance. This distributor has the same mechanical advance as the 019 with the added bonus of vacuum advance. _________________ Roads Scholar &
