Im looking for advice and information on fitting a 741 trans into a 57 A.

What needs changing and or modifying? (on the car or the trans)

Engine will be from a 912.

thanks in advance

Mr.hunter:

The lump itself lofts right in without modifications.

The three issues of concern are:
- getting the T.O.brng/press.plate/flywheel combo right.
- getting the correct (longer) cable/end hardware.
- getting the correct throttle cable/case pivot/pull rod combination.

At least, these were the issues I found in installing a 741 in my T1 (along with disk brakes) back in the 80s.

Have fun.

I am looking for guidance here to fit the 741 into the T1.

'Jacks' has said the 741 gear selector is not in the correct place for me...so can I simply swap the nosecone/hockey stick from my 644 to the 741 ??

or what else is required??

thanks

Check 356 Registery, Volume 3, No. 3. Lemme know if you don't have access to it and I'll post the article

Mr.Staggs:

My thanks for correcting my grievous oversight. The old synapses were not firing well, I reckon.

Please fact-check me if I offer that all the needed nose/shift parts can be cannibalized from a 644 box, if need requires
