Does True NOS (Genuine VW) fender beading have a VW part number, logo, or other marking embossed on it anywhere?
After searching the forums (fora?) and the classifieds, it appears they do not, but I wanted to double check since you guys are the experts.
Thanks. |

I don't ever remember seeing it on the beading itself, just the packaging. It is made from a long roll of material, cur to length and punched for the fender bolts, and only then does it have the applicable part number, so it wouldn't embossed. It might be inked after being cut, but it wouldn't show well on the black beading that is common. So I really doubt it ever had any marking. |

Thank you.
As a follow-up: does anyone have an index picture of Zenith Blue fender bead? I have seen plenty of other topics on The Samba showing ZB Beading on the car, but none showing just the beading as a roll (off the car).
I know different monitors will display the same color differently, but in just looking for a ballpark.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Any monitor that isn't color-calibrated will be misleading. And the white balance of the camera can throw it off, too.
The original beading was a very good match to the paint. When I repainted my zenith blue '67 back in '76 or so, I had to replace the beading due to sun aging and crappy spray-can white paint all over the car, including the beading. OEM beading was really hard to find/afford and so I used black, which was cheap, available, and looked damn fine with all the black rubber on the window rubber, taillight & plate light housings, etc.
I have seen two approaches to colored beading. Some have true color all through, some seems to have either been molded in two parts (with black on the flap), or painted/coated to color match. I don't know which was OEM. My OEM Clementine for my '71 Type 3 is true color all through, but I have seen some of the "two-tone" types over the years. Here are some examples:
Bug, 2-tone:
Type 3, monotone:

My set of NOS Turkis beading (circa-63) is black- then vinyl paint dipped for the color. It is tightly coiled I hate to search for a part number. I've had it for about 20 years- and bought it from a seller on eBay who is well-known here on the samba as well (Danny Zepeda). Some day I'll need it if I suffer a condition during which I decide to repaint. _________________
