How significant is the little "cup" part for the rear bump stopper? And are there replacements for it?
I've lost it from one side. Otherwise trailing arm is in perfect condition.

I did a quick forum search but only came up with a couple of results.
Are there any good options for a rear cargo mat? I have a carpet kit that includes this piece but I was looking for a rubber piece along the same quality as the original VW floor mats. |
I don't have any experience with this exact mat, but WW rubber is usually pretty good. Their front mat doesn't handle curves well, as it's too thick, but the rear mat has no curves, so you should be good. Airtek makes front mats that are thin enough to fit properly, but I don't know if they make a rear.

I've had great luck with WCM rubber as well, but again I can't speak for this particular mat.

Good luck!

Thanks for the links. I was looking for something for the rear-rear area. Adding onto my stupid question, what is this area referred to as? Luggage compartment...? |

"Rear Luggage Compartment" apparently.
I've never seen a rubber mat available. Anybody else? Stock buses had carpet that stuck to the paint in warm weather unless you spread some talc powder under the carpet pre-melting…

Without it, the arm could travel too far up and cause wear or damage to other components. Doubt they're made new, but worth getting one second hand or cut off from a rusty arm. _________________ Wash your hands

the way I see it, the cup itself is only like 1/8in thick, and the base for the cup still catches the bump stopper, keeping the motion normal. i just wonder if the edges of the cup have significant meaning of catching the rubber stopper or something like that...
this is what it looks without the cup:
and here's a reference with the cup in place. imo, the range of motion isn't really changed at all without it. the only thing missing are the edges.

The cup contains the snubber as it squishes down, when it's missing the arm just sort of stabs into it and could allow more travel. Any flat steel disc bolted or welded there will work. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Hello! I've had some time to work on my bus and noticed the end of my shift rod looks like it bends to the left.
a.) It's normal
b.) try bending it straight
c.) buy a new one because I'll never be able to bend it correctly.
Thanks guys!

Set it on two 2x4 blocks spaced 8-10" apart with the bend upward. Now take another 2x4 and your 3-4# sledge and give it a few firm raps. You may need to have another 2x4 block under the far end of the rod and something heavy laying on the end to hold it down. |

Thanks guys, I was hoping it might be normal, saw a couple of these bent on the internets with people asking the same question as me. I'm guessing it's not factory, that would be strange. I just wonder how this happens, seems to be a common occurance? I will take a "whack" at it with the 2x4 method you suggested Wildthings. Worst case is WW sells them for $118. Thanks again! _________________ =================================

Heat works well to give the metal more give.

Can the type 4 oil cooler support bracket be installed after the fan shroud is installed?

So I straightened the rod with heat as suggested, worked great!
My brother helped me, he's restoring a Honda Pilot?
Next Question, what is this thing? It's in the rear where the eingine door is. it looks like a diaphram of some sort and has an adjustment screw.
Thanks! _________________ =================================

It's an altitude corrector. It's part of the early smog system for buses starting in 1970-1971 when they went to two part. The other part is on the carb and is called a throttle positioner.

The cable connecting my dashboard heater defrost lever broke off at the ferrule. Is this part still available or is it integral to the cable? I didn't find anything when searching for parts but perhaps I was using the wrong terms.
Maybe it is possible to re-use it by re-crimping somehow (assuming I can get the broken cable end out of it)?

Unfortunately my friend, that is indeed part of the cable. _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.
