I like the CB rockers better than the scats. Lighter, heat treated and I have seen no reports of problems.

I have old black 1.4 cb rockers and was not very pleased by their overall quality (thrust faces not square with the shaft) even if they work fine on my engine after they've been ground square, if I have to use 1.4 rockers on another build i'll use scat, I also prefer their bigger adjusting screws with allen head much easier to adjust valves when you are under the car vs slippery flat screwdriver.

I’m thinking that if the hardness of the rocker and lash cap are too far apart you will end up with excessive wear on the softer part. Just like cam and lifters need to have comparable hardness. If the lash cap is harder then the rocker, the rocker will wear. But if it were strictly a hardness issue it should be pretty much even on all of them.

I did not like the adjusters on the cb rockers. 1 they were too hard and threw off shards of adjuster when you put the screwdriver in the slot and 2 Im not fond of screw driver slots...with that said..I have some of the knock off empi/bugpoop rockers that are 2 diferent size allen wrench Shocked on the same set of rockers....I dont mind. also remember to add a flat to the end of the pushrods!! I also do a little work on the adjuster oil hole to be sure it isopen and the edges cant contact the pushrods.. when you see a pushrod cup thats eaten up and hole closed by a diamond shaped plug of steel it's because the pushrod did not have a flat at the end. you do not want the pushrod to seat on the tip!!!! I add about a .100"(2.5mm) flat to the pushrod ends(both ends). I also remove un needed weight around the pushrod adjuster end of the rocker's and any other place thats not needed and remove all sharp edges on the rocker before I dfl coat them. the scat rockers are nice forgings , IMHO the cb's do need some deburring done.well the last set I used did. but thats me I dont like any sharp edges/forging flash. although Ive never heard of any breaking.

Ok,
So I ordered a new set of rockers from my supplier. They are SCAT.

I am a bit surprised as the tips are not flame-blued as shown on Vince's picture ?

The package says 20195 and is dated August 0 1 2013

Was the heat treatment done from a later production date ?

I would send them back. Don’t buy the “Well the whole rocker is hardened” BS

Like I said earlier, buy the CB 1.4's they are very nice.

It is sad that many suppliers sell very good stuff and crap at the same time.

I have written to Scat to ask them about heat treatment back in 2013.

I have as well looked at posts in the samba forum, older ones from around 2013, and have not found complaints about quality.

I have received some feed-back from Scat. They replied that the rockers have been bead blasted after the heat treatment.

With my Berg rockers, you can tell the rocker pads were heated with a torch by the discoloration. I don't see that on any of the rockers shown so far except Vince, but he had a different problem with his rockers.

I wouldn't take Scat's word for it.

I've thought the same thing about the Scat rockers (no evidence of heat treating) but found that a file didn't leave a scratch. My inquiry to Scat received the same answer, that they are shot blasted after thereat treatment. This was probably 2015-2016.
I've had my hands on most every brand of rocker this past year. IMO the Scat are the one's with the least that needs fixing.

Is it me, or do those Scats look cast? Maybe they are hard throughout?

They have been bead blasted. That would remove the heat discoloration and give them the appearance they were cast.

Ive never set up a set of those scats, most rockers like that need to be .040~.060 lower(rocker shaft blocks need milling), it would be nice to know if the scats do also...but everybody sets theirs up different so...Ill have to find out if I ever get a set of them.
