What kind of sender combo? Oil pressure and idiot light? Or a correct pressure oil light switch? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Well, you can probably find them separately in the classifieds. |

Yup, either set up separately with a "T" or a VDO combo unit from one of the major parts sellers like Air cooled.net or CB Performance. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I think what the OP is looking for is just an original type-3 oil cooler with the sender hole. _________________ Justin |

I'm also looking for an oil cooler as well, with little success.
They're obsolete and unless you find a NOS one, not available new anymore, .
The part number is 311 117 021B, a later replacement that is similar and fits T25/Vanagon is 070 117 021A.
I've had a few coolers cleaned, flushed and pressure tested, but not confident enough to fit one to my new build stroker engine.

The items are available, most pre owned. I was fortune enough to clean mine and reuse it. Mine was rather nasty to start with.

An oil pressure switch can be secured to the case just behind the distributor. Obviously its easier to do during an engine build. Pull the oil galley plug, drill & tap it for the pressure sender. Once this is done, you'll never have to worry about sourcing a Type-3 specific oil cooler. A Type-1 cooler works fine and fits in its place.. just without the sender hole.
Too many people get freaked out about an obsolete part. There's always solutions. In this case, its a factory looking solution. _________________ Justin |

Yup, what Critter said. On my all aluminum cased type 3 engine I had to plug both sending unit holes in the case, along with the dipstick hole. This is because the new "universal" cases are set up to be used in ANY air cooled VW. They even have a blanking plate for the type 3 dip stick tube to be installed.
On my T-1 case that I converted to a type 3 engine, I plugged the stock t-1 oil pressure sending hole, and used a type 3 cooler with a sending unit on it. I also lengthened the stock T-1 oil dip stick (welded 2 together) so I could read the oil level.
I could have used the t-1 oil cooler and oil switch, but I just used what I had in t-3 parts. I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Ah-ha...this is what they did to my Squareback. It does not have a Type 3 oil cooler and I noticed the pressure switch is behind the distributor like Critter described above. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red
