Howdy,

I posted this in the General forum (twice by mistake) and thought that I would post it here also because it is bus related.

I was hoping somebody could help me with some tire recommendations for a 71 westy.

I've checked out http://www.type2.com/library/tires/t2tirefq.htm and am leaning towards the Michelin LTX but at $90-$100 each I dont wanna break the bank account.

I was hoping I could get some recommendations here of people who tried some other tires on their bus with good success.

Thanks
~Kevin

I think any light truck tire would be ok, maybe Walmart has something that isnt as expensive. I put some michelins on a 71 I had a while back and they were excellent tires, but pretty pricey as you say. Good Luck, Jeremy

You guys are all wrong. The best tire for a stock bus with 14" tires is made by continental. Call the Tire Rack (see their ad in european car mag, or Automobile, Road & Track, etc.) and tell them you heard about a continental brand tire for VW bus size 185-14 with reinforced sidewall. These aren't very expensive and are made specifically for buses - AND - they work great. I had them on my '68 Riviera camper.

I am running 185r-15 reinforced tires from Signet (SV820, I think). $35 each "out the door." Definitely better than wimpy passenger radials!

I meant 185r-14 tires, of course!

On my '71 Westy, I am using the Yokohama Y-356 185-14 C rated from Tire Rack.
They work fine.
