Guys,
For the life of me I can’t figure out where the lower canister hose connects to the engine. There should be an air pressure port somewhere on the right side to push the vapors out of the can. The top hoses I can figure out. It’s just the bottom, clear, 1/2 inch hose I need to figure out. TIA _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

EDIT: I DID IT!
Let me see if I can figure out pictures. I just walked outside and took one of what I think you are talking about. _________________ 1982 Vanagon Westy

Good God. Looking at my pics I do see the nipple. If it was a snake it would have bit me. Thanks for the help. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

for the record - the 76 - 77 late bays had the hose on the shroud on the left side. The 78 - 79 had it on the tin on the the 1-2 cylinder side.
On 76-77 the canister was mounted to the firewall. On 78-79 the canister was mounted near the battery.
If you are using a 76-77 style canister one has to remove the end and the piece of gauze designed as a flame trap because it will have turned to gel and will block the outlet. You can use a piece of chemically resistant scotch pad to replace it. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
