VOLKSWAGEN LADYBIRD SPLIT DISCOVERABLE
Issued March 21, 1952

N ° CHASSIS 331659

HULL NUMBER 274238

MOTOR NUMBER 1-0400399

54126km meter

We are in the presence of an authentic discoverable ladybug from 1952 in its moving original state, always stored in a dry environment, this vehicle was bought used by the father of the current owner in 1963 as first car then jealously kept until today.

This ladybug was used regularly until 1972 when it was stopped. All the interest lies in presenting this model that has not been modified in depth and presenting a very interesting original state, the owner having had the lucidity of not having succumbed to the temptation of a risky restoration or heavy transformations as frequently seen. A simple veil of blue exterior paint has been applied many years ago, however, the green color is still present inside the vehicle.

Today it presents itself in a '' garage exit '' state, free from corrosion except for a slight perforation at the bottom of the engine hood, the owner aware of these risks having regularly coated the bases with oil. The left front wing has been replaced by a newer model but the original wing is present and its specific round grille, the left front headlight is not original. The front left foot is disassembled but is present as the original canopy, the latter having been replaced by a metal roof perfectly removable and designed so as not to pierce the flag or change the original upholstery and the opening mechanism. Note, however, the addition of side turn signals without the removal of arrows always present and a commodo of headlights on the steering column. Note also a shock on the flag at the height of the right side post but did not structurally damage the body, the closing games of the doors being identical on both sides and the closures are realized without a hitch. The saddlery when it has been preserved thanks to the presence of covers in imitation and today has a beautiful patina but remains however to resume as the side skirts and the skylight. Concerning the mechanics, this one is complete and of origin the engine is not seized and its numbers correspond to the year of the vehicle. The 54126km entered on the meter are likely to originate in view of the general condition of the vehicle.

Sold with his circulation declaration receipt.
8.000 / 10.000 € €

Yes it is, but you have probably now shown 100 more people how to bid on a very rare and desirable split ragtop. I think the price they show is just an estimate and it surely is worth way more than 10,000 Euros.

Data plate says 10/12 G which is a factory ragtop car. Ragtop mechanism has been removed and replaced with a removable metal top attached with clamps. A car is similar condition from Switzerland recently sold for about 40 000 Euros.

Pic 11 is interesting- most likely pre 56 pan, motor, steering wheel, tank, etc.
I'd love to have some time in that garage-that split is way cool.

Got it - I couldn't tell if I missed something in the photo.

I agree - the excitement of digging through the unknown for treasures!

Hello,

Little feedback about this auction...

I went to see this Split and the parts with a friend, I was interesting.
Split ragtop was sold 26000 € + 22 % taxes auction. Total : 31720 € = 36340 $

Nice car, but the condition of the vehicule didn't justify this price.

Regards from France !
Wink

Thanks for the feedback, the price may seem high but someone was willing to pay it!

For those in the UK that price is about £27,750

A rust free crotch cooler numbers matching split ragtop for under 40K?

That is actually not bad.
