Decades ago, dealing with leaky stock windshield washer set-up on my 1971 Super, I installed a Roberk electric pump and a push-button switch to have a working windshield washer.
Well, over the years, that pump was found to be inoperable last Sunday. I took it apart and got it pumping again, but the washer or something inside wouldn't seal right, so I bought a NOS version of that same pump online, it arrived yesterday. This way I wouldn't need to drill any additional holes to mount the replacement pump.
Because I had leaks in the tubing, I ended up replacing all the rubber tubing in the system, using 4mm i.d. (7/64) tubing on the outlet from the factory reservoir to the pump and from the pump outlet to an adapter union then 5mm i.d. (5/32) up by the nozzle. I had to warm the ends of the tubing to be able to slide it over the pump barb fittings and the others. But now working, and leak free. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Alright Cusser. Back in action! What an obscure, specific, aftermarket do-dad to find NOS
The internet is an amazing fabric for communication and distribution isn't it? |
Yes, Internet can be real handy. Obviously this part is no longer available new, but Autozone has something similar available online but not in stores.
Yes, Internet can be real handy. About a dozen years ago we wanted a used specific model baseball glove for my daughter, used because it would be already broken-in, and this was no longer available new anyway. We bid on it and when we returned from the Club Softball World series in Utah, found that we had won the auction. She still uses this in Adult Fastptich Baseball League. If interested, this is what Ebay has now for Pro-T https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trk...p;_sacat=0 _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I had a squeak in the front end of my 1971 VW Super Beetle Convertible, noticed it when I was installing that windshield washer pump and leaned down on the front bumper.
I jacked up the front end, put on jack stands. The only thing I actually disconnected was the two front sway bar bushings (two 8 x 1.25 hex screws and a U-shaped retainer for each. I used aerosol silicone spray and/or aerosol grease on the insides and outsides of those, and lubed the other stuff in place like bottom mounts of MacPhersons, outer tie rod end fittings, rear mounts for sway bars, and the bushings of the two control arms; was too lazy to keep taking off jack stands to figure out "exactly" might be the culprit, because I didn't care which was squeaking, just wanted squeak gone...
Result: NO MORE SQUEAK AT ALL, Yay !!! So successful morning eliminating the squeak. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
