Dont know if I’m ready to do a thread about this.
But at least the rescue was great, a really good memory from the summer of 2018. The work on the bus started January 2019. Enjoy some photos of when we dug it out, dragged it through the woods and carrying it over a field.

Excellent! Everytime you think they've all been found! Were you able to get everything out? Is the ID no intact? |

The interior light is in sthlm at a friends place being restored.
The left frame is a frame that are being passed around as a templet.
The front roof part is on another bus.
The front and front door, cargo door and engine lid is at a friends place.
The bus was redone inside around late 50ish or so, the original interior was a bit lost around does years I guess.
At least that’s what the 2nd owner told me.
The front sofa was taken out about ten years ago and probably sold.
Still don’t know where the trans and engine are.
I got one of the cargo doors. Bad shape but still. |

Yeah everything that was left.
Maybe hard to see on the pictures but it was really steep. So it was a bit of a challenge.
Yeah I got the ID for it.
And the owner that had place the bus there just lived like 3km from it.
Have talked to him a few times and he got great story’s about the bus.
It will never be a complete original restore but it sure will be a bus again.

Cool thread!
I was sad to finally miss out on saving this one but it looks like it’s gone to a good home. I look forward to the updates |

This is pretty much what was left of the frame.
Ain’t much to do with that.
I then heard that Schofield had started making BD chassis’s.
Had a good chat with Rick I think his name was over at Schofield.
Anyway he was great. He understood my half bad English Swedish writing and an order was placed.
Fast-forward to January. Starting to build the chassie.

I am amazed at the evolution of VW Buses in 20 years. I started looking for a Barndoor in '97, looked at some projects, nothing like this! I mean, stuff back then for $2k, were almost a couple days from driving. The '51 red sunroof kombi fire Bus was $8k back then!!
Love watching all these mega builds, way more enthusiasm than I ever had. _________________ ---

i know exactly what you are saying, we bought a 53 kombi in the 90s, 3 rows of seats, complete everything, but the upholstery was not original, motor was not the original, did not run, and somebody had welded up the semaphores... so we let it go eventually... certainly would not do that today...

Great to see progress being made. As you say, it is huge project but when finished you will have the satisfaction of knowing you saved a bus that few else would have! Any plans on how you intend to finish it - repaint it or leave original and blend in the new panels (hint - the latter is always good!) |

back in the 90s you could have afforded a better one, we paid 1500 bucks for a complete BD. we were just young bucks in our 20s... _________________ regards

Yeah I have given it some thoughts.
I have got a really bad 55 donar body (it’s in pieces) that I’m planing on taking as much panels from as possible.
That way I can probably keep it like a ratty look. And of course keep as much of the 52 as possible. |

And this is pretty much how far I have gotten.
Have started making some work on the beam.
I will have a center steering in.
I’ve also started to make my own outriggers.
They are really hard to make.
And here are the front finish pair.
Up ahead is to make the other four outriggers.
And get some help on completing the front beam. |
