Does anyone know where I can go to get wire to match the color codes in my VW. Has anyone had success purchasing wire so it matches the schmatics?

www.vintageconnections.com has a little that's close, but your best bet is someone parting any ACVW in the classifieds, or a commercial bus wrecker like Bustedbus or Thebusco.

Here, you want to match 100%? these are the guys to call:

http://www.riwire.com

I used them to make my complete color matching harness for my 69’ as well make correct wire harnesses for kubels and schwimmers in the shop. They can get you what you’re after including the correct black sheathing.

what year/colors are you looking for?

my OCD has had me bag/tag miles of this stuff from parts cars over the years. I could sell it by the foot I suppose

Hello together,

for Europe/Germany: https://www.kabel-schmidt.de is my first choice since decades for wires and connectors etc.

(Choose size as 1qmm and base color as black - choose than color set, German: Farbe - e.g: black-white-green, German: schwarz-weiß-grün)

In the recommendation here before, I can't find them all Confused ... only some basic colors - and not all sizes
(qmm = mm² wire cross section size as used in the VW wiring plans as 0,5/1,0/1,5/2,5/4,0/6,0/25,0 - or comparable amps).

regards,

I am actually working with the owner of VC on my bus currently. We're buddies from another forum - he also owns www.sparckmoto.com, we worked together to prototype and produce an upgraded charging system for late 60's-70's Honda twin motorcycles. The plan is to put together a fuse block that uses blade fuses and harness for my '70, that looks similar and bolts into the stock location. I'll start a thread on that once the project gains some traction.

I digress...however I believe he can get his hands on more wire than appears on the site. Shoot an email over and he may be able to help you out.

As for used stuff, I have 3 Ghia harnesses from parts cars that I really have no use for if you need something specific.

I have moved away from using 40-50 year old wire as its more often than not brittle and burnt. somewhere along the line.

And if Skills doesn't have it, I might (I have the same OCD issues apparently).
