Killer! With the availability of all the sunroof stuff these days, I'm seriously considering doing this to my partially roofed Bus.

You're gonna love it.

The porsche 5 speed is now installed. I designed my own custom trans mount and used some universal motor mounts I found on the internet. I used a type 4 engine case i had laying around for mock up. The actual type 4 motor going in the bus is on my table. The power plant is 2 liter t4 turbo charged motor producing 175hp with a lighten rotating assembly and chromoly flywheel. Arp hardware and new AMC heads that im currently working on. Im currently in the market for 4 pot brembo calipers as well.

I hope so. I keep forgetting how crappy this bus was when i started. With the new wolfsburg west roof, really its not a big deal if i ever wanna go back to 13.
Ive had several messages on facebook of people wanting to do the conversion as well. Its crazy how many people know about my bus. Ive met probably 15 people, who have never commented on my thread, they know about my bus lol. Apparenly, its kind of a celebrity!? Overall the project has netted me more welding work then i can handle and im probably going to be hiring help soon. So even tho the bus isn't becoming exactly what i envisioned, its really gave my business growth. Problem is the more it grows, the less play time I have to work on it lol. Im really determined to drive it this summer.

It’s cool that you’re just doing what you feel like. People who have the skills and artistic visions like you do are inspirational to those of us who don’t. You’re an artist. It all works out in the end, and makes for enjoyable reading! Thank you!

BusJunky, I'm interested to know if the roof was butt welded or spot welded at the factory, not that I will ever do it I just like to know these things Cool. Your work is amazing and juggling customers work around your bus work must be difficult I wish I lived near by. Yes your bus is iconic! Maybe we will see your logo on it in the future.

Its real LOL. I used funky green and the legacy sunroof. The total conversion was under $1800. To be honest im not sure if i like it. All's i could think about was how great it will on summer nights laying in the back with Jen. I really loved the 13 window too 😔. It unusual for me to go this far off the path as everything else i own is kept stock. I do on occasion like larger motors or being lowered. No body mods tho.
Im really exhausted working on it. Ive been working 65 hours a week on other peoples VW's and then trying to get mine done and at the end of the day theres just not enough ambition left. At this point im working on making it run and drive. It may be half in primer with no interior. I dont know yet.
Thank you everyone!

I believe its spot welded at the factory. Also the inner roof on a standard bus has a reinforcement plate that you need to remove in order to make it a samba. I didn't know this till i started cutting.

I'm going to do this exact same mustache-bar mount soon. I'd be interested in seeing how you did the brackets to the body.

Fabulous work on the bus!! I've been following since the beginning.

Seeing it outside must have fired you up! It's looking great. That blend on the rear end came out sweet.
