Those ball joints look like they are at the limits of their travel. This will cause a rough ride & potentially cause the ball joints to break. |
yeah I get that, but my old beam is rotten and for now it'll have to do. especially as its just sat there anyway.. _________________ 1968 RHD Bus.

okay, so semi sorted my brakes this last weekend, long story short the master was the wrong sided and I ended up removing one brake switch all together and moving the light switch down the line.. may work/may not but all I could think off/be bothered in the pissing down rain..
also got my Gearbox ready to be fitted.. new starter all new bushes and a nice oil refresh
here's a pic of the master, see how close it sits to chassis? annoying..
and my cowboy switch. in my head it'll work fine.. im sure someone will have something enlightening to say about it.
and this. driveway fake lows are the best!

honestly i really like your brake light switch setup. clever way to go about it.
Edit* on my setup I never liked how my brake light switch hung down from my later master cylinder so I copied exactly what you did here but used the line going to the rear brakes to put the switch in. I’m happy to report it works quite well and there is absolutely no difference in the time it takes for the lights to activate.
Thanks again for sharing this great idea. I appreciate it. |

Classic late update, by late I mean I haven't bothered taking pics of anything ive done for the last few months..
long story short, I got a good deal on a king and link pin beam so fitted that.
along with a pair of fresh kustoms drop plates, van sits awesome now!
made a start on my interior one weekend.. ended up using a splitty full width bed and just made some adjustments as it was SUPER cheap.. kinda stuck with a cheap and cheerful theme that just does the job.
and I got a TP 1600 freshly rebuilt to get it next week hopefully! so fingers crossed won't be too long before she's driving! _________________ 1968 RHD Bus.

so the vans been actually on the road now for like 7 months, done around 1500 miles so far!
Had a few teething issues, but getting there! here's some random pics ive taken so far..
you'll notice I got bored of the original steels
.
Winter now so ive got a list of bits to sort, including engine/trans raise so maybe come back in another 6 months and I might remember to put some pics up?
.
.
Oh and I bought a 61 beetle. _________________ 1968 RHD Bus.

Progress made on the engine/box raise..
so far ive:
-fitted the splitty nose cone to the AM beetle box
-changed the selector fork to a splitty fork
-changed the CV's to 1303 ones
-fitted the new gearbox mount
-fitted the new engine mount
-raised the fuel tank so the clutch arm can move freely and I can adjust the wing nut
-sorted the tinware in the engine bay so it'll still seal
-changed the rear seal fitment to work with the gearbox
-repainted the engine bay
-made a connector for clutch cable
-made a 19mm extension for gear selector
-had to fit a universal throttle as the rest are too long
and there's still bits to do
