The fun for all that begins here.

I still need to have the lug holes to opened up. These later 15" rims took a 12mm nut as opposed to the 14mm stock hole on the stock rims. I'll be having that done beginning of this week with some custom awning brackets I need to have done to install this.

Well it wasn’t today but.... I recently took my westy to lizard Motorsorts in Downey. For one thing I’d like to start by saying Richard is the coolest dude ever but I digress he did a complete rebuild on my 2.0 and on top of that new tie rods, front and rear shocks, brakes front and back, new fuel sending unit & fuel pump, clutch kit, dual carb rebuild, and new ignition switch(I’m sure I’m missing something else too!). I get her back this next week if all goes according to plan. I haven’t had it on the road in 4 years so this year I threw all my tax money at it so I can take my family out camping again. This is the first time I’ve been back on the site in a long time it’s good to be back

Welcome back, I got mine going again a year ago.
Took me 9 years to get to that point.
Today is our 1st day of spring at Latitude 36, 12:01 hrs. of sunlight.
I'm dropping at all out to install a fresh tranny this week.

I have been working on things on the bay window to get it ready to slap back together and enjoy. Not looking to do some concourse restore, just working on making things work properly and getting rid of some of the typical rust areas as well. I knew that I was going to have to do the front floor, looking now at a patch on the passenger floor and probably most of the driver's side floor. I bought a mig welder, leased a bottle of 75%-25% argon ($50 for a year) tank and have began experimenting with mig welding. I got one tiny hold welded up and ground flat.. so that was my first official "fix".

Reupholstered front seats on my double door sunroof/poptop kombi.

Friend tailored and did all sewing but I actually did all stretching and tightening on the seat springs and frames- dont feel my fingers

Well, its getting serious, I fought like hell to remove a bit of rusty floor. It didn't go too well and I need more practice and more patience when using a spot weld cutter.. It was awful! The smooth bits it went better.. how in the world do you find spot welds under the rusty bits?? I removed the doors so I could have more access.. but this seems to be growing in scope rapidly

I purchased a stool console thing that sits between the seats a while back and someone recovered it with some blue material that doesn't match anything. I went to remove the fabric to replace it and look what I found under It! Original material! Cool

Since buying my 71, I've been doing a lot lately. Got the shifter issue sorted (someone put the lockout plate on upside down), got all the doors locking (working on the unlocking part), and started to correct a number of issues in the engine bay (long list, easily a couple weekend's worth of work).

But during the interim (and while waiting for some rain to pass), I've been working to build the history of the vehicle. It appears to have spent its whole life here in the Bay Area and I've managed to contact two previous owners (outside of the one I bought it from) and have received some interesting stories!

So my question is how far down that rabbit hole do most of you like to go?

You are lucky. My best guess on mine is that I'm the 6th or 7th owner. Rolling Eyes

Hello,
Well, heck then; you're the lucky one. Your under dash wiring pictures didn't look bad at all then... if you are the 5th-6th owner.
That bus has been passed around like a cheap and easy date... watch where you put your fingers... and, don't lick any stamps you find.

Hahaha! Right? Well, I know there's some wiring that needs help. Some fuse corrections...I'd never seen a yellow one until now. All in good time. Full tune up and stuff in the engine bay first this weekend. Then I can get to the rest.
