You can use any kind of sandable automotive primer. It just depends on what kind of a finished product you want. Baking a paint job is a Maaco and Earl Scheib gimmick. Baking it cures the very top of it a little quicker so they can get it out the door. Not sure of how you plan to paint it. Rattle cans? If you are going to do it yourself just use 1 step enamel. Its the least expensive and if you screw it up you wont be throwing away a ton of money. Any body supply house will have the paint. Napa stores carry paint also. I have no problems with Martin-Seynor paints. I think their tint prime is top notch _________________ The honey-do list put my project on hold....... |

any 2k primer will be fine, Omni, Transtar, PPG's K 36. as far as paint goes, if the car is already Yukon yellow then take the gas door or tail light housing off and have the store match it in PPG Concept. This is a urethane single stage paint that matches and covers well. I would stay away from the acrilic enamel but thats just me. A lot of people here like this old technology. I can make this conept and the base clear shine much better and last longer than enamel. |

Check out southernpolyurethanes.com as they have a lot of "budget-minded" prices and I haven't heard anything but good news coming from people using their products. Their customer support is top-notch as well. I am definitely going to use their primers and clear coat. I just got a paint sprayer off of ebay, hopefully the seller doesn't flake and I get it soon and get pics posted |
