...Are you going to send a bill to Coolrydes for the improvements and additional engineering?
Nice work, you have clearly dialed this one up to "11."

With that kind of obvious skill level and effort, I expect to see you adapt a Subaru EyeSight System so that it will detect any upoming speed bumps/potholes in your path and automatically adjust your suspension height accordingly.
Keep up the great work, and thanks for taking the time to share your progress with us here.
I refreshed my memory of your project by going back and reading this thread from the beginning.
Now I'm no longer surprised by the amount of effort you seem to be willing to put into this project, nor by your skill level!
Your 2nd post held these clues of what was to come ...

I really like to hide the performance potential. Good examples of what I mean are the shifter knob or the two main gauges: The speedo is an original 140 km/h unit that is recalibrated to show miles/hour with the km/h reading somewhat hidden in an inner ring. So it will show me speeds up to 140 m/h.
The tach face used to be an original time clock, the housing an old speedo, now fitted with an AutoMeter tach. 12 o’clock is neutral, 1 is 1000 rpm, 2 is 2000 … The minute hand is fitted with a counter weight and then repainted in matching color. The hour hand is adjustable from the outside.

Incredible level of attention to detail - Simply gorgeous work!
(I had to look very close to find the kph markings that you so cleverly hid in plain sight. ) |

The steering rack in place - with wooden brackets for try out:
The final brackets are being machined from aluminum right now. The idea of using the original steering column hole seems to be working - at least with my cardboard mock-up
I will have to place a bearing into the assembly, because I am using three joints. I will get back to this once the body is on the pan, because the mock-up is not exact enough to fabricate the bearing holder at this time.
But I am glad that everything looks like it is working all right
Cheers

Yeah Man. That's tedium right there.
Quite the feat. Kudos on the mock up. _________________ Volkswagen!

Those seats have a very cool retro 50s Sports Car look to them, ... and they look as though they'd be pretty comfortable and supportive as well.
IMO, they are an absolutely perfect choice for the direction you've taken with your Karmann Ghia. and I can't wait to see the completed project.
Are they genuinely vintage, or new reproduction seats?
What can you tell us about them? |

Thank you for the info and link, halbug - much appreciated.
One quesion for you, though - do you plan to compensate in some way for the fact that those seat backs are fixed and can not fold forward to make for easier entry to/exit from the back seat area?
I suppose if the seat tracks will allow the seat to travel far enough forward, then the seat back would not really need to fold.
Seeing how you've proceeded with both your Beetle in the past and the Karmann Ghia project thus far, though, I'd imagine you probably have some sort of custom fabricated mounting already planned out which will solve the problem in an elegant and creative manner.
For example, perhaps a way to allow pivoting at the front edge so that the entire seat can be raised up and tilted forward? |

Looking at the Cobra Seats website, it appears that the Roadster style seat is available in three different variations - Roadster SS, Roadster SR, and Roadster XL/XL+.
This is the info for the Roadster XL/XL+ ...
CobraSeats.com wrote: |

I really like the seats, will be following with interest how you arrange the tracks!
The tachometer in the clock is really brilliant, do you have any more details on what you used, how you did, etc..? I would love it in mine!
Thanks

Antoine - First I bought an Autometer tach with 30 deg increments. I used the hands and the clock face from a broken Ghia time clock. An old speedometer had to doner its housing. I opened up the speedometer housing for the tach hausing to fit into it from the rear. I adjusted the depth of the tach, so that the Ghia face, now mounted to the tach, would reside at its original depth. Cut the tach housing to match the speedo housing and welded the two together. I used an insolating material to create the electric connectors and used it to cover the remaining opening from the original fuel clock. I made two adapters on a lathe, to match a) the long hands to the tach and b) the short one to the adjuster from the time clock's glass. The large hand's short end was filled with solder to weight balance both ends Correct hand color was mixed and the two hands re-painted - DONE _________________ Stealth Ghia Transformation: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7226044&highlight=#7226044

I use Roadster XL. If you have a chance try them at a dealer, to sit in one because they really make them from narrow to wide for your own taste and fit. I bought mine from Bodo Schlaeper @ https://www.cobrasitz24.de/impressum/ he is a really nice guy.
