eer, aah, my early 70's Kombi (bus to you guys eh?) has just recently been put on the road, after six months of engine building and suspension work. I've just now reinstalled the starter with a rebuilt solenoid and other than a slight air leak in the intake somewhere that I can't track down (causing poor idle ie. an idle needing to be set too fast), all is well! But:
Going over bumps both my pasenger and sliding door rattle quite a bit. The sliding door looks to have taken a whack in the past, and does not sit flush or sealed when closed. The passenger door looks OK to me (but doesn't sound OK).
Does anyone have any suggestetion as to how to adjust up these doors so they don't leak air and don't make any noise?
Great forum by the way, I've been wasting far too much time so far reading what y'all on about, and I'm sure that registering won't help, still, you gotta do what you want I say! |

How is the seal on front door? A good seal will make it slightly difficult for the door to close and seal it firm when locked.
The sliding door has a few adjustments. There are slim plates on the bottom and both rollers are adjustable. After setting those so the door doesn't rattle, both striker plates move and the latch that keeps the door locking in the open position also moves. I've found that you only get than nice sliding door closing sounds when all of those are finely adjusted. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

Alright! I'll have a play with the sliding door on the weekend, and I reckon you are on the money with the passenger door seal too. Most of the seals are cactus, and I'm looking forward to being about to pull all the glass out and replace them all when I paint the body. |
