I bought my first 1967 vw bus. Still learning a lot. I just realized I have a dual port engine Smile. How can I spot if I have a Freeway Flyer Transmission?

Easy, it overheats anytime you go 60 MPH or higher.

Another way to tell is remove all the spark plugs, jack up the back of the bus and with the trans in 4th gear count how many turns of the engine are required to make the wheels complete 1 full turn.

Or install a tachometer for a fifteen minute drive. Have your passenger hold the gauge and write down where you hit 3,000 RPM in 1-4th gears, and 1,500 RPM in 2-4th gears. Check speedo is reading correctly with GPS.

Update with results....
