Assembly No. 30
The Transporter, pioneer of the minivans
The automobile industry divides its production into segments according to the uses and particularities of the vehicles. The one of the monovolumes was established during the decade of 1980, but that does not mean that there were not already vehicles of those characteristics in previous times. The Transporter is one of the pioneers.

The engines of the T1
Paradigm of robustness and reliability, the air-cooled engine of the T1 was one of the keys to its success. Based on the mechanics of the bug, the engines of the Transporter initially followed the evolution of the car, although the Type 2 would soon also become the test bed for innovations that would eventually be applied in other models.

The T1 seen by the press
When it appeared in 1949, the Volkswagen Transporter was praised unanimously by the engine journalists. However, with the passage of time, the press did not hesitate to criticize its limitations and shortcomings. As happened with the Bug, the press seemed to establish a peculiar love / hate relationship with the Transporter.

Assembly No. 36
Evolution of T1 (1962-1965)
The T1 reached its maturity with constant technical improvements that kept it at the top of the sales ranking. News such as the 1500 engine or a larger tailgate made it possible for it to remain a competitive product at a time when other manufacturers were starting to offer similar vehicles.

The other T2 Camper
In addition to Westphalia, many other companies also offered their conversions on Volkswagen vans. Just as had happened with the T1, these manufacturers commercialized kits that made the T2 the ideal vehicle to travel around the world with all the comforts of carrying the house on its back.
