Too Rusty to be trusty?

Thinking about picking up this '72 SB from an old guy who's only the second owner (after his mother-in-law, the first). Had it since '85, Fuel injected, Auto w/ dealer installed R-12 A/C (will need to replace.) Straight frame, no major accidents, engine runs strong. He's asking $2100, maybe offering $1800. Still tallying up expenses.

My question is - all the seals deteriorated and of course, now the engine area is Swiss cheese in some places. I'd love to rescue it from certain death outside, but is this too far gone to save? If not, is there a pre-fab kit somewhere to weld in? Will a patch job suffice?

Also, bonus question, what's the name of this piece? We'll be looking to replace it if we purchase.

I have a solid engine deck to "cut to order" for $200 +shipping.
Your front apron should be removed by drilling out the spot welds, repaired & then welded back into the car.
How are the heater channels under the doors & the fenders for rust?

The technical name for that front bit is "bent front apron". Hope this helps.

That area in the rear is the load floor. That rust is caused by leaking window seals, or the pop outs left open.

I've seen worse rusty cars come from Texas. That one looks almost exactly as my old 70 Square, right down to the AC.
