Dave, sounds like this one failed with no signs of any leaks, correct? Also any special tool you were glad you had for this road side repair? Or were basic wrenches enough?

Glad you got rolling again.

No warning no leaking. Shifting fine one moment and no shift the next.

Only needed a 17mm to remove the banjo bolt for the pressure line. 13mm to remove the two bolts holding the master. And a 7mm to work the bleeder on the slave. Was really easy but messy. I made a reservoir of aluminum foil to hold the fluid from getting on the floor. That really helped.

Discovered you can bleed the master by pumping and cracking the banjo bolt and get 98% of the air out so when you bleed the line to the slave there is very little air.

The master and slave have 275,000 miles. It is time.

Good info, thanks for sharing. As far as I know I am still running the original master to so at some point I'll be doing this repair. Bummer that it was so binary going from working to not, would have been nice to have a leak to warn you that time was running out.

New slave being installed. I’ll have to complain to management about these working conditions. Cool

Taking a siesta with a frosty beverage and a bag of jalapeno kettle chips.

New master goes in this afternoon.

Siesta is over. Installed new master. Bled system. All is good for the trip home.

Sometimes you arrive home in better shape than when you left. Paraphrasing J. Muir.
