1971 Volkswagen westfalia spare tire well rusted out

Hi everyone my spare tire well Is rusted through i cant seem to find the metal pre cut like they have for the beetle? Can someone link me one? Or is there anything else I can do for it?

cut it out, weld a plate over it and stick the tire on the nose. Otherwise drill the spot welds and put one in from a donor.

Yes, do it right. Try the classifieds for a piece from a donor bus..... There are sellers on this site that are in your neck of the woods.

Hello,
Hit Classifieds, go down the list to Parts catogory, select Type 2/Bus Bay window 1968-79. Once on the Parts Bay window page, use the "search this section" search box(Top left above pictures). Type in what you are looking for, then hit search.
I just typed in "spare tire" and found one in FL. Also search "Parting out" as your term. "Donor buses" show up that someone may sell you that piece.

You will not find a new replacement piece of sheetmetal, just used from a donor bus... Unless the guys over the pond make one????.

is this a full resto bus? cause if its just for fun, that spots' a good candidate for a simple fibreglass patch, and it won't cause the next guy much trouble if he wants to do it right some day

If you aren't doing a resto, cut a piece of thin plywood to the size of the back "floor" and just cover it over.

Or just take a piece of sheet metal from HD and hammer it to something resembling that and place that in there to re-enforce it.
