sunroof cables! help!

Hey there! I have an '87 syncro sunroof I'm restoring, and I just pulled the sunroof. Both cables are busted on the cast ends. Question is, are these the same as bay sunroof cables? They look like it in the pics, but wondering if the lengths are the same?
Any help would be most appreciated!
PN's are 241 877 305 and 253 877 305 for the bay and vanagon respectively. So close...

I just went through this and no, they are not the same.

I bought a set of what I thought were vanagon sunroof cables from bus depot a few years ago (6/29/11) and kept them in their package for a few years. When I needed them sure enough- they were for a bay window bus and were useless to me. Looking over the invoice- it says 254 877 305 PR

These are not vanagon sunroof cables.
Last year I had to order a real set, from France.

BusDepot can make those kind of gaffs unless you really drill it home with them the difference.

But call Ron Salmon, owner of BusDepot, and he should be able to get or already has what you need.

My sunroof vanagon is an '87 too.
And I also bought some cables long ago from him but still in storage.
For all I know they may be Bay cables

I've resigned myself to fabricating my own, after modeling each left and right in CAD. I'll machine them from billet aluminum. The trick will be carefully removing the cable ends, and then re-attaching new ones once the guides are installed...

Has anyone found a source for the cables only?
The castings and mechanisms are good enough on my end so if I could find those and crimp em up I'd be set too.

This place confirmed looks promising to replace the cables. So this should help out folks, like me, where the lifter mechanisms are in good shape. Unfortunately, they don't have the cable ends / crimp caps. Anyone have a source for those by chance?

I've found these cable end caps which I think are to go on throttle cable tubes for go-karts with the hole for the cable to come out. Not sure they are robust enough though. Might get them and see if they'll work.

Does anyone have a cable set out so they could take close up pics of the cable ends?

I'd be interested to see how they are constructed and overall OD and length dimensions.
