were original bumpers stamped with the VW logo and/ or part number?
I stumbled across this pair of bumpers that would be perfect for my 69 but Id only be interested if they were OEM.

OE are heavy, aftermarket are light.

I don't know about those bumpers but I have seen original VW bumpers with a small VW logo stamped into the bottom, often with a year indicator.

Type 3 bumpers are like this.

There should be a vw and some numbers stamped in the centre of the bottom of the bumpers.

IIRC, OEM bumpers are made from steel approximately 2 mm thick, and weigh in somewhere around 11-12 lb. w/ no hardware attached. The common aftermarket bumpers available nowadays are made from steel approx. only 1 mm thick, and correspondingly weigh in around 5-6 lb. So an easy test is to ask if seller will measure metal thickness (e.g. on an edge, w/ calipers), and/or weigh them on kitchen scale for you.

Thanks all-
from what the seller is describing to me regarding light weight, no noticeable VW stamp, and the thinness of the bumpers I'm going to assume these are aftermarkets and not worry about it.

Maybe- but I don't live anywhere near there and shipping would be a fortune. I was only looking at the others because they were close by me and a great price if original OEM.
I have a pair of aftermarkets on my car right now that still look plenty good but nothing beats OEM Wink
