I took my 1959 Double-Cab out for a brief spin on the nearby freeway crossing over the swollen and flooding Missouri River just west of St. Louis, MO.
Then a quick stop in a local park for a shot or two. It was an overcast day so the paint job couldn't really show itself off as nice as on a sunny day.
An uneventful and fun time together...

Pulled the engine in my Single Cab this morning to more easily address
some maintenance/problem issues with it. Such as the starter (problem),
axle boots, re-torquing heads, fuel lines from tank, gear oil top off, general
cleaning, clutch and accelerator cable greasing, etc...

My '65 driver door after being opened a billion times was just too worn out to open from inside or outside. I had a door lock/latch from a low mile bus that had tipped over onto the driver side and the lock latch was bent so bad I had never considered using it. I didn't feel like trying to fix it but since people have brought back busses on here from vitually dust I figured ashamed if I didn't try.
I don't have the before picture but after 2 days of trying every conceivable holding and bending jig and grip I got it straightened out and it's like new mechanically.
Here's the old worn inside pull and outside push contact points.
Here's the replacement one from tipped over bus...no wear at all...yay...a sow's ear turned into a silk purse.

These cracks have been bugging me on my '65's driver's door lower hinge so today while the door was opened up I thought I'd try to slow down the cracking.
I'm the world's worst welder but I think I managed to cross a couple places with molten steel.
Is that inside structure the "extra strengthener" that VW added in January 1965 or is there something else? |

I'm a little late in saying, but some folks drill a small hole at the end of the crack, to keep it from continuing. Your welding may be all you needed. _________________ '64 single cab Big Bend Bus Bash 2015 '16

Finally broke down and bought a sander with a vacuum port - should have done this years ago; sanding is virtually dust-free now.
