Bob (53oval) has a set of original VW-logo'd sill plates on his car. They are a Gold color with dimpling throughout the entire surface, not smooth.

Bob has the seriously hard to find gold ones. Cool i have seen a set in pics that Phil Wiener has. I can't remember where the vw stamping is on them, or if the ones for sale are a very close repop. If anyone out there has a set for sale let me know Wink thanks-scott

For starters, the repros are stainless steel, and the stampings are a checkerboard pattern rather than the diamond pattern of the originals. I'm sure others will have more to add.

I've turned down $800 cash and an NOS set of the silver ones for mine.

Actually those don't look that bad. If you don't have a real set to compare them to, most people would just assume they are correct. Wink

I have a different set also. They are alluminum (sp?) and have the checkered pattern. I purchased them about 3 years ago from a guy in England. They are different because the part that goes over the carpet holder stops at the top rather than covering it. They fit perfect on my oval vert because they end before the extra support in the door. I will post pics later.

Did the originals have slotted or phillips screws?

How big a gap was there at the ends (how tightly did they fit)?

It seems anything made in the fifties or earlier for the most part had alot of slotted screws, I only know of 4 in my car plus the door hinge screws, thats it!

i have heard first hand from a reliable source that the sill plates are very nice. with that said, finding an original set with a fair price tag i was told to scoop up a set or two. i agree with Bob that they won't be around long. vwoa will track them down.
