Can anyone tell me the origin of my fan shroud. The conversion was done by the PO.

Is original, but modified? After market? 36 hp shroud?

Can you tell by these photos?

I read that the fan width changed with the DH shroud in 1971.

It looks like the fan is narrow for the shroud.

The shroud looks to be aftermarket.

Original fan on aftermarket shroud? Empi?

Or

Could this be the original, that's how it fits. Was there ever a conversion kit for adding a DH to the older per 71 units. 1966 H case single port.

Looks like a standard OG dual port doghouse shroud. Yes, they can be adapted to work on single point cases.

The fan shroud is a stock factory late model dog house. The fan is a earlier fan and is for a non-dog house which makes to too narrow.

So if I were to purchase a new, welded, painted and balanced fan from Gene Berg it should fit nicely, be more efficient, not blow up or rust?

That sounds like the plan. Thanks

Berg fans are not painted, but yes it will work as the VW engineers designed it to.
