As a lifer around racing, I've seen a ton of BS -- so can spot it easy like.

But never anyone bragging about winning their class when they were the only one in it. Rolling Eyes

I don’t see any bragging. Just telling a story about something really cool that they did. A great trip report!

Can we get an interview with the flagger seen 2:42 into the video. I raise a beer to her too? And where do I order my Go Westy Mexican baja?

Not what Vanagons are about. Once again GW has run off the track.

Fun video, I don't care if they made their own class.. As far as I'm concerned, I don't know who else WOULD run a camper.

I think it’s funny that the organizers made it harder this year by making the RV class a little more like an RV, requiring a functional bed and fridge.

As for being the only one in their class, that’s not GW’s fault. C’mon, where are the Sprinters, 4x4 Sportsmobiles, or Toyota based campers? You could do a cool Sunrader 4x4 conversion. Or how about a Jeep towing an off road teardrop? Or. Short bus Skoolie? I mean if GW can do it in a VW Bus, surely somebody out there can mount a challenge.

I see Vanagons as a choose your own adventure. So why not race the length of Baja? Doesn’t mean YOU have to choose that adventure.

Agree completely, this represents one bookend of a very wide spectrum of Vanagon fun.
All I could think was "How do I sign on to that team???"

This was a real testament to some excellent design, prep and execution.

Great video, thanks for making and sharing it!

Clarifying, I think it's great they did this and I'd do it in a minute.

Just no need to post "1st in Class" in print.

Now if they really had foresight they could have claimed they had the world's first rolling washing machine....if they put the dirty laundry in a bucket with a lid added water and soap all the bouncing would have self washed it.

I run a VW show each year
and each year someone gets a 1st in class trophy
being the only one in their class.

it's no less special. since no one else showed up

I also like that they use a WBX. True, not stock, but available, and shows what theses little engines are capable of.

First in class can be considered tongue in cheek. Until someone else is cheeky enough to join in the fun.

First or last in its class, running alone or with some competitors...

just doing it is a challenge by itself ! !

It's a great achievement, and GoWesty should be rightly proud. Congrats!
(and reading this thread I'm reminded of one of the most important things my father taught me: "if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all". Sage advice for Sambanistas too.)

Agreed. They finished, .....and without even lifting a wrench? Thats cool. And they didn't see to baby the machine.

"1st in class" is fair game with "air quotes".
