Washing, polishing, waxing, waterless wash between hose washes - it is all part of my exterior regime.

If you don't because it seems like a lot of work then perhaps you might explore some of the modern 'wax' products that are much easier & quicker yet quite effective.

My current van is a long ways off from seeing any benefit of wax (bad paint, seam rust, bonds, etc.). Regardless, I’m a very infrequent waxer.

Like Awahnee’s my original paint ‘85 looked good with wax before I sold it...

I waited a year before I waxed mine. Got tons of black, road git, and bugs form the van mostly under the Bra shinned like new after and I could tell she was happy.

Not OG paint but helped very much.

Never been a waxer, but now that the clearcoat is peeling on the nose of the camper I should probably polish and wax to help it look a little better.

Yes.

Please Specify: Lyrical, poetic, or nostalgic? Wink

Tried about everything, phased through Mother's Carnauba (crap) and Nu Finish Carnauba (decent), back to Nu-Finish liquid as for most of last twenty years. Classic Carnauba paste was a longtime fave, but think it's NLA.

Funny thing when you drive old vehicles that you do body repairs on or MIGHT repaint......... why wax it and ratchet up the chances of paint failure due to surface contamination? It is far easier to NOT wax and live with it as is than it is to use wax/silicone removers and hope you did a good job getting it into every nook and cranny.

Newer cars? If I can I will but honestly it is a task best postponed while you do more enjoyable or more pressing tasks.

I haven't waxed a car in 15-20 years I reckon.......... (even new ones off the lot)

Was doesn't cause paint failure.

Lack of wax indeed does.

For me, waxing a car by hand is something that I find very gratifying. I will dedicate hours for it. I really enjoy polishing old factory paint.

Meguiar's "mirror glaze" products range from a heavy cut to a show polish.

I painted NTROPY ten years ago. Never waxed it. Didn’t even bother buffing out the clear coat after painting. Color me lazy.

I wax at least once a year, even though my van lives in the garage most of the time. It has a lot to do with pride of ownership. BTW, I wax all of my vehicles, just to keep them looking good.

Dave sold me on Fluid Film when he showed it to me in person. Thanks man!

I waxed my van once. I try to wax my vehicles every two years. It's a lot of work. Sometimes I even use clay bar before to get more dirt.

I have to ask. Maybe this doesn't belong here, but your alternator bolt goes through the back...is that correct?

the paint protects the metal

and the wax protects the paint

unfortunately, no wax can protect paint from rock strikes or the uric acid from bird droppings

dunno re insect strikes
