Hi everyone, I purchased this original vdo rpm gauge for my 54 oval beetle

I don't have the wiring diagram for it, but it has the marks for +, signal and -

I can read these on the reverse:

Made in Germany

28 79

16000

10.63

On the right top side, is marked this:

53
9.63

Are you asking how to hook it up?

+ goes to power
1 goes to the "1" terminal on the coil
- goes to a ground connection
Ground is the connection on the far right without the black surround

The terminal at the top of the gauge is for the light.

That is what I was thinking, thanks!

If I am right, it is dated in 9.63-10.63, but I don't know what the other numbers mean.

One question… How can I remove the light? It's tight and I don't want to break anything

The 9.63 / 10.63 are date stamps for when it was made.
The other numbers I do not know.

The light should just pull out but it could be stuck.
It's probably best to try to pull it straight out but:
If you can grab it lightly you could try rotating the bulb holder by the circular outer edge but it's easy to smash or deform it.

I would think that you need to find out what this is out of as I believe calibration depends on if it for a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine.

There is a video of the tach working. As you can see, it doesn't look like it's for a 4 cylinder engine, I think that it's for an 8 cylinder, because it marks aproximately twice the rpm
