I’ll keep going with the videos, mainly so that I’ve got them on the thread for reference. Please let me know in a comment if you are NOT able to view them, as I have not made them public, just viewable to anyone who has the link.

The first is the front cab and under the mats:

And the second is the sliding door (exciting stuff!)

For your further viewing pleasure, please contain your excitement at the sight of a very well maintained, highly original, Australian spec 2.0 litre EFI engine! I suspect it is even still running the original coil, judging by the colour!

Next up, a couple of videos of the interior space. Reupholstered some time ago, the laminated particleboard cabinets are quite prone to swelling if they get wet-these aren’t too bad!

There are plenty more of these videos, it’s just taking me a bit of time to get them loaded up! I’m really lucky that my friend was able to take so many detailed sequences covering most aspects of the bus. It certainly helped when it came to looking at the various options and making the decision to go for it!
You’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow before I’ll get the chance to put more up!

First one is the stove and gas bottle arrangement, as well as the extra, rear facing seat. Nice!

Then a couple of sequences of the classic Dormobile side tilting roof and the über cool tartan bunks!

6’3” and 12 stone? I’d be hanging off the end if I didn’t burst through the material!
We have the same bunks in our current bus and I know we have never used them. Shona remembers sleeping in similar ones as a wee girl, but neither of us fancy our chances!

Weirdly, this is my favourite video because it shows what a good state the underbody is in. I love the step up into the cabin! Original paint still showing and the steering, suspension and brake elements are very clean with only surface rust. I don’t know what has melted the heater tubing, I can’t orientate it in my head but it looks melted from the outside! Any ideas?

Slightly boring clip of the tyres (which I had asked for!)
I can’t see a date code, and I haven’t checked to see if that tyre has a commercial vehicle rating but, given the general standard of maintenance, I would be inclined to use them in the short term.

Last couple of clips now.
The first shows the dash in a very good state, thanks to being garaged all its life. The radio cassette is a Voxson, which is an Italian make and good quality. It’s not working at the moment, but I’m hoping a bit of electrical tinkering might sort it-otherwise I might just leave it, as it is probably early ‘80’s and would suit the age of the bus.
The picnic table is different from ours, probably because of the rear facing extra seat. Nice!

Well, you certainly make a great video presenter! You should think about taking that forward?

Here's the screen on ours. Not a Dormy accessory, but a fairly common Australian one. Stone screen. View through it's not the greatest! Wink

There’s unlikely to be a great deal of action with the Kombi for a while, as she settles in for a period of storage, but there was a run up a local mountain, where it was reported that the engine is running well and pulling strongly!
I had been going to order a birth certificate from VW, as we did with the orange Kombi, but I’ve realised that the Australian bay windows were assembled in a factory in Clayton, Victoria from CKD kits until March 1977, so VW will have no records! That’s why the paint is a unique Aussie only colour.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering about the windshield wipers and if the bus was CKD. Very indicative of using German parts for your purpose. Makes those wipers all the more unique. Cool

Not sure if there’s a specific answer to this but, Olive has a GD engine number on the fan shroud which has been cancelled out with ‘zzz’s’ and a VW symbol before it. There is another number, beginning with ‘W’ that is stamped on the fan shroud, further right.
My assumption is that the engine might have been remanufactured by VW and the W number is the new engine ID. Is that likely to be correct?
Also, the chassis number with asterisks is the correct one, but there is a similar number stamped on a plate to the left. Any ideas?
And as for the very rough stamped number on the floor of the engine bay...

An update:
Samba member orchidkombi is looking after the bus and is managing to get quite a few bits and pieces done.
The rubbing strip where the fibreglass roof meets painted metal was quite degraded, so he has removed, cleaned and replaced with closed cell foam. The dent in the rear roof means that the profile of the fibreglass doesn’t quite fit, but that might get sorted later.
The roof rack was also bent and has been straightened. Unfortunately, one of the thumbscrews was corroded and snapped off.

A couple of other things. Orchidkombi has ordered replacement trim strips for the interior cupboards and also a replacement for the water inlet on the side of the bus, which had lost its cover and has a cork plug firmly wedged in!
The front bumper has holes drilled in it which would be from an original spare wheel holder, before the ‘roo bars were installed.
Lastly, some of the newer, green, curtains have the original orange curtain material on the back. They could all do with replacement, so I think we will be looking for colour coordinated ‘70’s material to make into new curtains!

They will issue you a birth certificate, I got one for my 1976 Australian CKD Microbus, it describes the basics from the manufacture in Hannover, and the destination being Australia, specifically states it is “CKD”, M-codes marry up to the bus interior etc., one M-code marked as unknown (I’m guessing it is the Australia only front nose for compliance to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), e.g. transposed windscreen wiper set-up), I don’t know if they mated a body to a specific engine number as part of a ‘kit’ for assembly, as my Type 4 engine was a replacement already installed when I bought the bus. I doubt when the complete knock down kits arrived at Clayton from Germany they were that fussy. (They did issue the separate standard letter with the certificate, confirming my engine was not the original 2.0L, but I knew that already).

The weird thing on my birth certificate is that VW in Germany had designated the vehicle to be painted L31A Senegal Red. The bus is original VW of Australia / Dulux of Australia CLR 722 Riverina Orange. Not a speck of red to be seen anywhere, it was obviously painted orange upon assembly in Australia, but I doubt they painted it Senegal red in Germany, I would think it left Hannover in a protective primer for it’s trip around the world. People on the Kombiclub forums describe similar anomalies with their birth certificates. Strange, but not surprising really!

(When VW assembly ceased at Clayton, the plant started assembling CKD Datsun cars. The first Datsun’s to roll off the line were available in the VW Dulux colours. So sometimes when you search for paint codes, they come up as Datsun/Nissan! Anorak piece of information for you there).
