Looked all thru Baja section looking for off road tire ideas , all different sizes makes and models , not one person had what load range they are running front or rears. I have 215/75 BFG A/T load range C front and rear on my '70 type 1 , they're around 5 years old with maybe 5k mi on them. Seem way to stiff for my liking, at least the fronts.

Any suggestions?

What tire pressure do you run in the front?

I know I'll get grief for this, 8 f 10 r , honestly, the fronts have almost no sidewall bulge. That being said, I drive 5 miles the a river road to go fishing and hunting and that's what I'm building my build.
Along with the stiffness us the weight, totally unnecessary imo.

On my sand rail with 5 rib implement tires on the front I run 6 psi. The rears are 14" quad tires that I run 4 psi in. You can let almost all the air out of the fronts before they start to look low.

Thanks for the response, maybe I need to focus more on my suspension. I do run through some pretty rough rock patches and I don't worry about blazing new trails .

Are you running those crappy coil over shocks?

Absolutely not... Stock shocks front and rear.
I think the PO cranked the rear torsion bars to the max, as for the front, he put ,imo, wrong back space wheels to make them stick out as wide as the rear. Not sure that makes the front more harsh but imo is hard on front components.

Since it's a '70, it should have dual spring plates in the rear. See if the inner plates are notched. If they are not, you can regain some suspension travel/compliance by notching them.

Do I need to remove the spring plates to notch them?

I started by drilling a 3/4" hole in the plate for the radius, then scribed a straight line from there to the radius at the end of the spring plate bushing.

This will require you to also get longer shocks or to cut 1" out of the lower shock mount cup. Cutting an inch out of the shock mount cup also you gain some more clearance over rocks.

Keep in mind, this is testing the maximum angles of the CVs, but I have been running them like this for 23,000 miles now.

Probably another 1.5" but now I'm not topping out over every transition & rock & gully. It now rides just like it would if it was stock height.

Are you still running your front sway bar?

A friend of mine had a sand rail and it’s front torsion bar suspension was locked up solid from neglect. Made for a terrible ride, as you might expect.

Tdctdi, my travels are similar to your power line video.
Your Ghia rides like a Cadillac compared to my bug.

Still running front swaybar.
