try # 525CCA...I found that on the interstate web page |
I think that means 525 ColdCrankingAmps. A specification, not a part #. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

I'm on my third Interstate in 15 years.
One cracked a case when it was about two years old (I wrenched on the positive terminal too hard) and the others went well past the 60 month expected life span. I got no problem with them. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

I went the Optima. It works great.
I'm a little obsessive about keeping the stock configuration, but the battery is the one place where I make an exception. The Optima has no risk of acid leakage, which was one of the top 5 problems that the PO passed on to me. |

I am obsessive about stock and that does include the Battery. While double the price of a interstate, you can still get a correct 6-volt that fits under the seat with the cover and strap, plus it is made in Germany...

I would go with the 6-volt optima battery. It's a great product, and no worries about any possible acid leakage. They're hard to find in stores, but you can buy them direct through Optima's website |

How do you install the optima battery I just put it on its side but it seems that the terminals could touch or maybe the springs from the seat touch it too. _________________ 1964 Beetle Convertible |

Mine fits upright under the seat. The PO held it down with a battery cover that is held down using the original battery hold-down fixtures. But I have a couple of rubber mats over the top of the battery to ensure it doesn't make contact with the underside of the seat cushion metal. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

These cap terminal covers work awesome!, no chance of falling off as they are flexible, but still snap over terminal tightly.

I loaned one to a buddy so his '65 bug could make it to a show/cruise. Laid down at a 45 degree lean- it did just fine for the 75 mile roundtrip cruise in the mountains. _________________
