Ok, so the event is 5 days away. I’ve be busy at the shop working side by side with JAD to get my bus done. Fingers crossed that I’ll be taking it home on Tuesday and I should be able to put some miles on it, change the oil and get the interior installed by Friday. We are planning on leaving durango around 2pm to head to Silverton. I’m saying 2 just Incase I have to button anything up before we head out. If you show up before I do l, feel free to find a nice spot big enough for us all. Many of you have been on the trip before and know that we just wing it. I contacted John in Ourey and nothing is set up with him, I will contact him again. If that doesn’t pan out we will still be stopping in Ourey for an hour or so depending on time.
Here is a list, if you’re coming and not on the list please add yourself.

Shoot. Not gonna happen for me.
This is the last available weekend for my wife and me to go camping before she has to head back to teaching high school. They start those teacher days earlier every year. _________________ John

A little too close. I just spent the last 3 days at the shop working side by side with the builder and I’ll be back tomorrow. Hoping to take it home tomorrow so I can install the interior and out some miles on it before the trip. I need to at least break it in a bit and change the oil before we go. If we pull this off in 6 weeks, that’s gonna he crazy! _________________ __________

I was just in contact with jwrover in Ouray. We are gonna stop at his distillery, K J Wood Distillers, on Saturday on our way through Ouray for a tour and tasting. He’s gonna join the trip from there, camp with us on Saturday night and Sunday he’ll be heading off to Gunnison.
This might not be for everyone, so the ones who don’t want to join can feel free to walk about Ouray. It’s a beautiful small town.

The whole family is ready for this weekend - here is our rig this year. Plan to meet up on Friday and peel off Sunday on our way back east.
Thanks for putting this on Rich! _________________ MonkeyNut VW - www.monkeynutvw.com

Forgot to ask what time the train leaves Silverton. Any particular time?
It's about 8 hours for is and want to do it best to meet there but I'll look up the road and meet there if we miss the lead out. _________________ In search of a Vanagon

Another great weekend, bid thanks to all who attended!!!
This year we had 8 buses and 2 double cabs attend. I showed up around 5ish on Friday and the guys had a nice spot picked out. The water did creep in on us but we survived. Saturday we got on the road around 10ish and headed to Ouray where we got a tour and tasting at JW Rovers Distillery and had lunch. Johns hospitality was amazing and his distillery was beautiful, the spirits really packed a punch. Lots of rain during this part of the trip. From Ouray we cruised to Ridgway, got fuel and did some thrift store shopping. From there we went up and over Owl Creek Pass and found an awesome camp area big enough for all us just past Silver Jack reservoir. Sunday morning we packed up and headed north to Rt 50. Here some of the people broke off to head home. Bob, Greg and myself headed south on a fun dirt road for 27 or so miles. There was some damage on the road with a few gnarly sections. We headed to Lake City and had some lunch. Sunday night we found an awesome camp spot on Lake San Cristable.
My family and I are still on the road for 6 more nights.
Big that’s to everyone who attended!!! _________________ __________

Hold on... whose is that Neptune Blue double cab? Edit: Looks like volksheads...
I ended up not going in mine because 1) my wife wanted to go camping with me one last weekend this summer (in the RV, not the truck), and 2) I had no provisions for camping in the DC, and figured it would rain. Did I wimp out? volksheads, did you camp in the back under the canopy?
Looks like you guys had a great time. _________________ John

Oh man! You missed out. Would have camped in the back of the double if it wasn't crammed full of parts, tools, and gear. Pulled a 1964 Heilite camp trailer behind and the whole family was cozy.
Thanks again to Rich and all involved - another great trip! We headed east from Gunnison back to Charlotte, NC.
Camped at John Martin Lake SP near Lamar, CO Sunday night, Falls Lake SP in SE Kansas Monday night, Hoteled in Paducah, KY Tuesday night and got home late Wednesday...back in the land of the pines. Until next time! _________________ MonkeyNut VW - www.monkeynutvw.com
