Replaced the seals on the Thing, and still have an intake leak at the rubber boots. Replaced these boots twice now. So I thought, maybe its the powder coat... looked up powder coating online and it says it is a porous material.

Is it possible that the powder coat is causing the vacuum leak? I've never heard of this before.

The powder coat causing a vacuum leak seems very unlikely.

What have you done to determine that the intake boots are the cause of the leak?

Also, I can't tell from your photo whether the vacuum port on your intake manifold is capped. Is it?

How about these three places?

1- I cant tune the carb and it wont idle
2- sprayed carb cleaner around the left boot and the idle changes
3- yes its capped, welded shut.

And I haven't checked the circled area, it looks closed, but I will hit it with carb cleaner and see if it changes the idle speed.

Volkzbitz carb, and I swapped it for my know good carb of my other vw and still have the same issue
