Ok everyone,
Please list enough specific information you have on split bus Westy tents.
What I'd like to see is a breakdown of changes throughout the years, including different colors, tent bags, pole bags, types of stakes and pegs used. This should include how many of each stake/peg and where used. Also, include how the tent mounts to your bus and how many mounts it takes.
Please include as much documentation and pictures as you can. Be as specific as possible, especially you bus owners that can confirm you have the original tent to your bus.
I know there are other websites that have some information but nothing that covers entirely what I'd like to see compiled.
Thanks,
Dave |

Here's some information crofty came up with on 66-67 big-top tents.
The tent takes seven pegs with a length of 220mm that goes to the two side flaps and the front door flap. It also has guy ropes for tension and support. There are four pegs at 300mm and guy ropes that support the top four corners of the tent. Also, there are 26 round top tent stakes to hold the bottom of the tent down to the ground. The tent poles and stakes/pegs all come with there own separate bag for storage.
If people can provide pictures of their stakes/pegs and bags that would help complete the SO-42 tent section. I'd like to see pictures of all other Westy tents in various stages of assembly as well.

The early Westy tent stakes ('65 and earlier) came with 25 "eye" stakes, two "L" shaped stakes, and two things of twine with their appropriate brackets. |

Here is some idea of the tent parts.
I am told that the blue bag is an original pole bag and that the small yellow bag as well; the bag with stripes, no.
As well as the stake hoops (stamped Made in Germany), there are metal sliders on the guy lines.
The set of stakes is not complete.
Please add or correct if necessary

Flipseat brochures show a blue and white foyer tent as well. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Have you ever seen a red/white foyer tent? I've only seen yellow/grey with the exception of the green/white one in the advertising piece....but never a green/white one in person. |

55-58
Colors seen;
orange/green/white (want this one for the '56)
red/yellow/white
blue/orange/white
red/green/white
red/white
red/white (with extra pinstripes)
B/O/W tent (not original to this bus);
Red/white '58 tent with extra pinstripes and red vinyl bottom(not mine);
The tent and poles on my '55 are unlike anything I've ever seen (aside from brochures). The tent actually is about 12" wider (longer wing) than all the other tents I've seen/had. Fabric is also thinner too, and it only has 12 poles. The "A" frame is hinged rather than screwing together. Only three pieces of the tent fabric.....roof, small side, and the front and other side are one piece. Different things to hold the sides to the roof. The tent came with the bus when new.
Picture of wider tent (original to this bus);
I can shoot some pictures of the poles if anyone is interested.
Also, I've seen atleast three different styles of vinyl bottoms on r/w tents...probably others too. Green Vinyl, White (beige) vinyl, and a white with blue speckles.....the yellow/grey tents usually used grey vinyl.
The earlier tents had a thinner strip of vinyl as well running along the bottom. |

Is Wisconsin the center of the Westy tent appreciation society?
You, Brian, & Chris probably hold 50% of the world population.... |

I've got an orange/white stake bag and inside is 25 stakes wrapped in a box with "25 stuck" printed on the end of it. There are also two of the L-angle shaped stakes and two sets of twine. Up until that point I thought there should have been 23 stakes. I've got some original instructions....wonder if they note how many should be there. |

What's funny to me is neither of those busses *should* be sporting a privy tent. |
