From this

I think I left more of the carpet kit on the floor cutting around all the bars than I got into the car _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

Just installed a old stock VDO fuel gauge to replace the modern VDO fuel gauge that was in there. Got everything working but the older fuel gauge is reading 1/4 of a tank less gas than the modern one. The modern one was definitely accurate so wondering what it might be causing the difference. Any ideas?
I'm very new to anything to do with electrical work so any help is appreciated. |

Gauges and sending units are always iffy things... All gauges and sending units especially oil pressure and temps should be triple checked and verified that they are accurate!!! _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

Wow man!
You should consolidate into a build thread. That’s totally interesting.
All I managed to do was finalize the install of my 2276, thus completing (sort of) an 18 month long journey.
I still need to start it and tune it and everything that means. _________________ Volkswagen!

Miserable weather in Auckland today. While I'm prepared to, and often drive, my Ghia in the rain, I'm not willing to expose it to hail and flooding we're experiencing today. (I'm not like that other guy who keeps looking for places where his Ghia can loll around in the mud.)
So I moped around inside until I remembered that I haven't fixed my KPH speedo's sticking and jumping needle. It was embarrassing enough when I took Nicholas/Sputnick on an outing and his moderator eye spotted several shortcomings in my restoration.
I opened the speedo and found the gears dry. No sign of lube and dry to the touch. Here:
And here:
Also no lube on the needle shaft, here:
And here:
I used a bicycle grease with teflon on the gears and a light oil on the needle shaft.
I still have to re-install the speedo and then, weather permitting, do a road test. With or without Nicholas in the passenger seat, which down here, is on the wrong side of the car. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Sticking with the new distributor theme...installed a refurbished 010 in place of the "Blue Screamer" 019. Engine seems much happier with the advance curve of the 010.

This week I tapped out the holes for my dash pad that were filled in by the body shop, still can't figure that one out. Pics displayed on my build page.
I also mounted my fresh air cables and lever. NOT FUN, especially since I should have asked when to mount these, as running that long cable to the passenger side under the rats nest of wiring I just installed was difficult. I think I only knocked a few wires out of place.
The minor problem I am trying to figure out is do I have the levers under the dash UP toward the top when connecting to the flap, and should the flaps be open or closed when tightening down the cable nut?? Or, should the levers be in the down position, same thing with flaps, open or closed when cable nut tightened. Am I supposed to Pull the vent flap open, or PUSH the vent flap open? Ponderous!!
I also purchased this endoscope- DEPSTECH Wireless Endoscope, IP67 Waterproof WiFi Borescope off Amazon, in order to run it down my left side window post to see why I can't run my wiring to the interior light and door switches. The borescope worked very well and the adjustable lighting helped see much more. I put a small digital light under the dash, and running the borescope, I could see the light under the dash, but as I go closer, it was obvious the area was too tight to get anything into that hole, at least the wiring, and just trying to find it isn't worth the trouble.
On the positive side, the borescope worked really well, it's stiff enough to move around and flexible enough to get it where you need it. Runs off it's own wifi, and you use their App and watch from your phone or tablet. Very cool for several areas around a vehicle. And for $35, I'm sure it will get plenty of use. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYTHWK4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Painted some turn switch stuff.
Before:
After:
Also replaced axle boots and made a throttle cable bowden tube from a late model one. No photos because the axle boots are an especially crappy job. |
