I've been trying to go through my dash, cleaning up whatever electrical Gremlins I could. I've never used my heater, and I don't think the temp control has ever worked. I took it out to clean it, and heard something rattling around in it, does anyone know what this little white piece is or how it fits into all this?

The top pic looks like a broken part of the middle pic, that is supposed to engage in the 'tooth'in the lower pic. Without it, the timer won't work, in that the heater will stay on indefinitely.
You should be able to super glue that part back together, should you need. To have a functional timer... |

The probable reason that that part broke is that grease in mechanical clockwork of the switch has hardened over the years. If it were me, I'd disassemble that timer switch to the point that I could get down to the clockwork and give it a thorough cleaning and some fresh lubrication.
As far as gluing the part together, super glue ain't going to cut it. You need a specialty glue. I'm guessing the broken part is made of nylon, and I'd try an adhesive that specifically says it works on nylon.
Good luck. |

Well, I gave that a shot and surprisingly, it seemed to have worked well. I reassembled it all after using a specialty adhesive and put it back in. Lo and behold, I have a functioning timer now in my thing. Now to figure out the rest of the Gremlins living in my dash. |
