Hi everyone,
After sixteen years the Optima Red Top battery in my 72 coupe is at the end of the road. I need a replacement battery, but I am at a loss to determine the correct battery that I need to purchase. What specific battery (group number and size) should I be looking at? I buy all of my car /truck batteries from Costco as they sell Interstate. Needless to say, the fitment guide book does not list a Karmann Ghia.
I could just buy another Red Top, but I have read that the quality of the batteries has gone downhill in recent years. Is there any truth to the claim that Optima batteries and not good? If I could get another sixteen years out of Red Top battery, I would........but I am not sure they are still well made.
Any ideas?
Thank you,

I just put a new Interstate battery in my ‘70.
I just measured for what would fit and bought one.
As an aside, the Walmart battery it replaced was from 2004 and it still tested as good but I still didn’t trust it.
