Here is a picture of the dash in my old 59 Ghia Vert. The original clock was converted into a Tach. I had a simple bracket made for the other three gauges.

Putting the top down gives a good view of the dash in my '71; zoom in for details

Here’s mine. Quite quickly done, just because I had the fabric and I wasn’t too fond of the wood grain anyway.
I recently found more of the seat fabric, so I may recover the glove box door so it will blend in more. _________________ Volkswagen!

Man I love your dash my looks close but when I bought my car in the late 70's I wanted to have what I thought at the time was a cleaner look... I pulled the chrome trim, filled the holes and threw the trim away... boy am I a dumb ass. _________________ 66- Ghia

YES, ... Yes you are!
...
Just kidding, of course.
As the saying goes, "Hindsight is 20/20.".
Personally, I love that 1966-only dash trim but that may just be because my first Karmann Ghia was a Manilla Yellow 1966.
Seeing as that lovely dash trim was unique to just one model year, it's obvious that even the Volkswagen/Karmann designers felt that the trim needed to go as well, so don't beat yourself up about getting rid of it back in the day. |

Still getting my ghia together. I have the matching speedo on the way. I also have oil temp, oil pressure and a clock. |

My 1967 Convertible "Joan" with original labels showing tire pressure and shift points.
Who would leave those intact?
