KCW did a few. I did one on my bubble car project. Multiple ways to do it. Most I’ve seen chop off the frame just forward of the torsion tube and weld in a 1/4” plate there. Then weld the rear frame section to the plate however high up they want to go with it. Then gusset both sides of frame with more 1/4” plate. I did it by removing the bottom of the tunnel and pie cutting the tunnel before and after the torsion tube so more of a Z’d frame. But I wasn’t constrained by a typical body so I was able to take more liberties.

Curious what you are trying to build? Depending on what you are trying to accomplish it may be better to just channel the body over the frame. Helping a friend do that on his project right now and it’s fairly easy if your heater channels are already nonexistent.

Im wanting to lower this thing while keeping suspensions stock 3 to 4 inches, then i can put airride on it and not have all the camber, wont look right to me with camber as it will have no fenders. Id really like to scope out some pics.

Kind of the best angle in my gallery for how I Z’d mine. There’s a few others. Looks like you could either Z or do the plate method and it would look fine. Nice project.

I am assuming this is the body you are using for your project? If so,you could use the same method I did-I am building one similar.I used a torsion bar housing from a wreck and lifted it 3 inches and went back 61/2 inches.I used some 6mm plate as a template to line it all up.If you check my post on here there are pics."Hot Rod Beetle Ute"

Here's a link for my 57 salt flats build where I took an IRS pan, converted it to a link pin front end and raised the torsion housing 3.5"

I personally like the diablo metal cutoff wheels for angle grinders. Nice thin cut. Less than 1/16” with a steady hand.

That actually flows quite nicely, what rear cab section did you use?

This is around a 1950 ford truck cab. I chose it as the bidy line at the door matches up almost perfect. Lotta cutting, sectioning and so on to make it the same size, i have no fancy tools so all just by hand.

Nicely done, I like it. How much did you lower the roof?

Cool project , have seen some guys with swing axles who have left the torsion tube as is , but made up raised trans mounts front & rear (or modify original rear mount ) which raises the trans up relative to the pan & used kind of " C " shaped adapter pieces to place the swing axle above the torsion bar side plates , think those adapter pieces also have shock lower mounts on them. Still need to run shifter rod above tunnel. Might be an option for your project !
