Can anyone tell me if these hoops are OG? What are all the holes for? Looks like Swiss Cheese Laughing Do I just weld up the ones not being used? Thanks!

They look original. But the dead giveaway, at least with Derek's hoops, are the base plate gussets. They are slightly different. Looks like you are missing a slat on one side. They should be installed all the way to the bottom of the cap. That is what the lowest chamfered hole is for. The rest look like PO added stuff. If you are planning on running a tilt try to find the original size and shape hardware to attach the slats and caps. If the screw heads stick up too much they can wear holes in the tilt as it moves around while you are rolling down the road. (Don't ask me how I know this.) Also, I take my tilt off when I am driving on the freeway as it is an original and the canvas is scary weak after 47 years.
In the middle pic, if your rubber bumpers are there, those other holes are a gift from a PO.

looks original to me. The correct hardware is M6 X 35 slotted countersunk screw, lockwasher and nut. I like to use 40mm. I find the extra length makes getting the whole assembly together easier. Let me know if you need that one bow! Very Happy

Ignore some of the responses above. Sorry previous posters. Smile

EVERYTHING you have put arrows on are extra holes.

There are only holes for 6 slats, if that helps clarify things. The last hole on each side is right where the hoops are welded together, which is not at the end of the cover piece.

Original hoops, non-original screws:

I think he was asking if the hoops are original, even with the extra holes.

Okay. I misunderstood that portion.

I would say yes, because the rubber bumpers are riveted on. I don't think the repro hoops have those riveted.

If you need any photos of anything, I can take more pics tomorrow in the light.

Thanks Everett! I guess it was really two questions, was it original and what holes should be covered up? I figured it was probably original but I didn't know what all the extra holes where for or if I was missing wood. The chanfered holes looked official?? So six slats is what I should have and the rest of the holes should be welded up? Should I replace the rubber bumpers?? Any pictures you have of what it should look like would be great!

Yes on six slats.
Yes, on welding everything else up.
It is weird those slat-sized mounting holes look to be the same style.

It sounds like your bumpers are ok but a guy sells repros if yours are damaged.

Here's close-up I posted a while back of the rear rubber bumper area

I forgot the originals have an extra metal channel in there so if that's not there...

The hoops I got from Oregon have rivets for the bumpers. I think the reinforcement metal piece is there too.

Yes my hoops come with the rivets and the reinforcement channel. Even though I supply the rivets I think you would still be able to recognize the original rivets.

I think they are home made but I'm not sure
They were on 1965 single cab with enlarged wooden bed(M201)
Couldn't find photos SC M201 hoops so I wonder if they are the same for M201 as for the usual SC(except lengths and width of course Smile )

I have a photo of a widebed I saw with a canopy at the 2003 bad camburg event. I’ll see if I can find it, it may take me a few days and I’m not positive I have a photo of the framework since it had a cover on it.

If we can confirm those are original and you don’t need them I’d love to have them for my singlecab.

This photo is on dropgates - does the shape seem right?

OK, feel free to reach out if you decide to sell them in the future.

If anyone sees this and knows of those are original/correct for a 201 Westy widebed, let me know.

Would you mind posting more photos with some measurements? Does the u-channel look the same as the westfalia roof rack material?

10 years too late, but you can get these off a “thing”. I don’t know which part they’re for, but they’re exactly the same.

3 years later, where are these used on “Things”? Or who sells new rubber bump stops?
