Ours was for furthest distance driven to the event. It was covered with bugs by the time we got there, definitely not "show" condition! |
Always take a couple of towels and spray bottle of "Show & Shine"... Mine is also driven to shows...

One of my very favorite shows has been the Central Ohio Vintage Volksfest held just to the East of Columbus Ohio at a High School. The HS Band would make the food, both breakfast and lunch, (Very Good!). They escorted you by bicycle to your class parking spot. Killer Swap Meet. Close to 400 VWs of all kinds. Having put on shows myself, and been co-organizers of other events, this was a huge amount of work to pull this show off.
About 5 years ago they switched from class winners to "Top 75". Meh.
I used to go every year rotating from selling in swap to showing something. Now I do not enter the show, but every other year I sell in the swap. Get rid of the buggy stuff I accumulate.
I have also made trophies and helped name awards. instead of giving an award to "participants", we came up with a lot of unique named awards. At a beach event we had a "Stucky" award for worst stuck in the sand.
At Manx Around The Mountain we had "Muddy Buggy" and they deserved it! "Bare Essentials", and she earned it beside the road on a long run between restroom stops. "Flat on the Mountain" for a flat tire, and was awarded for a parking lot flat. "Broke Buggy", "Hillbilly Buggy","Rattles" for the buggy that made the most noise after some of the off road runs, "Burn Buggy, Burn" for worst sunburn, "Moonshine Buggy", "Drug In Buggy" for whom ever got the tow rope of shame. and many others totalling about 30 awards. What was different was, no one except for 3 of us knew what they were. So we just observed of the course of the 4 day event and the people did not disappoint. And then at the awards dinner, we had a blast presenting them.
Made these for my local club several years ago.
Made 35 of these for the Manx Around The Mountain from last year. Used vinegar to create the patina. The Dragon shape was for the "Tail of The Dragon" road we ran one day.

Love those homemade trophies and the quirky awards! Adds so much more fun to an event!
Three years ago we started an ice racing event for the beginner drives in our circle of friends. I make the trophies out of pop bottles and whatever junk is at hand and there are only two. One for lowest time of the day and the second is for most out of control. The last one turns out to be the most desirable and the kids that get them are happier than a pig in poop!

Wow! You call that a small town show? Pretty impressive line up! How many entrants would there be? |
Last year about 500ish if I recall correctly. And the town is small by most standards. Population of 20,000. But to me that town seems absolutely huge considering my town doesnt even have a stop light. Population of about 1300 |

The show and shine we went to was in a town with 3 streets, about 30 houses and was hosted by the Mayor. The event was at the town hall and the barbeque after was in the Mayor's back yard.
There were 36 entrants and 7 plaques if I recall correctly. The event drew people from 3 larger centers within 30 minutes to an hour and a half away (except us from 4.5 hours away) and with spectators likely at least doubled the population for the day. The tour through the town brought out most of the residents to cheer and take pictures.
The event had a down to earth family feel to it that we enjoyed immensely and by the end of the day we came away feeling like we knew everyone there.

Wanted to include a picture and a shout out to the folks who put on the No Show utah car show annually in Kaysville Utah.
one of the sponsors makes a couple dozen of these Trophys a year, including ""adding patina to the hotwheels models.
