I think we all enjoy browsing pictures to compare or just see how someone else is doing things, so I thought I would post pics of my Ghia journey.
It is not intended to be slavishly original nor veering away to a resto mod.
It has quite a bit of its original paint, and has not suffered too badly from rust, so the plan for me was to try to keep as much of the old as I could whilst replacing rusted sections, replacing all the required mechanical components, replacing all the rubbers as they were all toasted, and also fitting an nice new interior that I had made by Lenny Copp in the USA.
I am in Australia and bought the car out of California last year although I didn't get it here until June.

So far I have done the brakes, front suspension with new king pins and link pins.
Got the motor running, replaced the rear floors, bought new Bumpers
Although so far most of the work has been repairing the RH front which was subject to a poor repair, anyhow I hate typing so hopefully the pictures will be of interest.

Nice take on the tidy up. I like the trunk. Fresh paint only where needed.

I agree!! The two toned Low Lights are really cool, I probably love them because mine isn’t... Aerosilver, Antelope Brown and Cognac are a few of my favorites.

Really nice car you have there, all the best, they are super fun to drive.

IMO, L 243 Diamond Grey and Patina does, in fact, count as a two tone Karmann Ghia! Wink

Anyone can repaint their Ghia in an "original" color scheme, but it would be extremely difficult for anyone to try and duplicate the lovely, Amazing "original" finish that is on your Karmann Ghia.

Nice!

I see that what looked like a pad on the dash is now gone. Was that original?

I think you might be referencing the speaker grille? Which will go back in after the '59 dash pad goes in.

Thanks for the nice pic! I have heard the ‘59 came with a dash pad but had seen some without. That looks pretty sweet— especially for 60 years! Is someone still providing these?
