OK, what the hell?
I adjusted this a couple weeks ago down to 1.5psi for a Progressive carb. I look now, and it's back up to 3psi. You can see the adjustment is pretty much maxed out.
What. The. Hell.
I'm guessing it's toast, but I've never seen a FPR fail before. Pic below.

And yes, I know the throttle cable tube has popped. I'm gonna stick a hose clamp or something on the back side. Haven't decided how best to address it yet.
The progressive works great, but things like poor throttle placement make me consider throwing the duals on there. And I still might. They're on my 2180 right now, but I'm planning on going FiTech for that engine... _________________ No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. |

They sell rebuild kits but those chrome Holley regs suck. |

Clean it out, maybe some crud in it holding it open. I always dead head the line when setting the psi. |

Thanks. Any recommendations for a quality FPR? I'm running a "low pressure" rotary pump, but it still goes over 4psi if I'm not managing it. _________________ No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. |

What spring is in the Holley regulator? They offer 2 different springs in case you did not know. The "standard" spring is for fuel systems needing anywhere from 5-10psi. The less common spring is for 1-5psi as I recall. I'll check Holley or Summit to see if I find the part number. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

the Holley 12-804 regulator has a range of 1-4psi. You need to make sure you have THAT regulator or the rebuild kit for THAT regulator.
As far as i know all those regulator housings are the same. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

Really? Well, crap. You're gonna make me go out and work on the thing Saturday in 97 degree heat, aren't you?
This thing came on my 2180 with the dual brosols (no idea which ones at the moment) and it was running 3psi. _________________ No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. |

If that is a liquid filled pressure gauge, then it will change reading with increased engine bay temperature. If so that reading will only be accurate when you first start the car. |

That pic was taken cold, engine off, with the electric pump on.
I got the same reading hot with the engine running. _________________ No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow. |

Aeromotive makes a low pressure regulator made for 1.5 psi. Just under 200.00. Summit sells them. The holley ones suck.

I used a Malpassi regulator from CB works perfect and less than 1/2 the cost of the automotive fpr.

never had a problem with those cheap holley regulators in a carb setup. the rebuild kits are not much like $14-$18 I would rebuild it and make sure everything it clean. also make sure you have the low pressure spring. |

The rebuild kits are $9.99 and comes with both springs around here. I have 3 of those holley regs and haven’t had a problem yet. The insides are basically all the same, a diaphragm and a spring. The bigger the diaphragm, better. |

Rebuild kit was $13 including shipping direct from Holley.

Rebuilt it with the Holley kit. Found some odd crap, but nothing that should impact the pressure. Ball and spring work as they should, but it never goes below 2.5 psi. And that only when running, if I just energize the fuel pump it hits 3psi.
I don't think this is actually the cause of the rich idle problem I have, just eliminating suspects. And since I had no idea about the condition the FPR was in, figured I'd tackle it.
I think it's just crap.
Here's the odd thing I found. On one side of the output, there's what looks like a wall that has rotted away. I'm guessing flashing from the casting process. But it's pretty damn thick. Couldn't chip it out with a screwdriver.

It'll go over 4psi straight off the pump.
OK, yeah. It's not doing nothing at all. Just not what I want it to do.
I did a video of the rebuild...
