No updates as yet. My guess is the chassis has been taken as far as it could for now. The team is now faced with the difficult task of recreating many of the required parts unique to the W30 and sourcing other parts from period Daimler-Benz cars that may have been used in a modified form on the W30. All of that is time consuming and expensive.
Also the focus currently is on the body. It is at the premises of René Große Restaurierungen workshop getting built from the ground up so it is taking up shop space therefore costing money if not being worked on. The idea is to get the body done until next European summer and have it on exhibit at HO21. _________________ Check out my Facebook page: Volkswagen Prototypes. |

To the picture of the three cylinder heads shown on page 11 and discussed on pages 13 and 14 of the thread:
Two years ago I was invited by a very good friend, who was for a long time a leading engine developer at VW, to visit a private guided tour at the Automuseum Volkswagen in Wolfsburg. There was an exhibition called "Generationswechsel" (new generation). Its theme was the change from the boxer engines to the modern water cooled in line engines. The maker of the exhibition, Dipl. Ing Michael Willmann (a very nice and knowledgeable man) also co-authored an accompanying book whith the same title.
In this book he shows exactly this picture of the three heads and comments it. And according to his comments this picture of all three heads is a real one taken in the 1960ies. It is stated in the book that the engineer Gustav Vogelsang had those 3 cylinder heads in his locker. The credit for the photo goes to Volkswagen in the book. So there is the possibility that the 1936 head still exists.
Outside of the museum exactly the same book (as stated to me by Herrn Willmann) can be bought at the Motorbuch Verlag under the title "Die Erben des VW Käfer - Der Lange Weg zu Golf, Passat & Co.". Only in German regrettably. |
