It was available here between 2010 and 2015. Still available as a used car of course and for little money...price range between £5000 to £10000. One just up the road from me. |
It would have been in the running back in 2013 when I got my TTS but no longer! |

270 HP from a 1600? It's almost a Ghia... Except for the terrifyingly ugly front end.
Looks fun to drive.

Trylon, your TT looks very nice and seems well cared for. I'm still highly convinced that the TT is a reborn Ghia.
I was enjoying my morning ritual of Coffee and Bring a Trailer. I saw this 57 Alfa Romeo 1900C. The front end seems similar to our KG's. Maybe a bit of industrial espionage going on?
I now understand why it was it was "fashionable" to stick an Alfa grill on a "bumped nose" Ghia.

Thanks for the kind words! Seems more worthwhile to lavish my care on a midcentury dream car, and I am looking forward to doing so! It is funny that I finally got to the Ghia from TT so, clearly, I must have seen the family resemblance.
Agree that the AR has some KG aspects. As the AR is 57, is it the lead time is required that makes you suspect espionage? Or could it simply have been copying? I have seen that grill on KGs; didn’t know it was Alfa’s. |

Just thinking of what it must have been like working at one of the Italian auto styling salons during that time. I'm purely speculating on how these designs would be similar. It would have probably been a very small circle of designers. I doubt they would collaborate. I bet the competition was as fierce in the design studio's as it was on the race tracks.
Maybe an apprentice left one studio for a better opportunity at another?

Who would have ever suspected that it was actually pronounced "are see zed are"?
Thanks for the link, John - after watching that, I can honestly say that I think I'm in love with that model.

To me, I think this would be the ultimate remake of the Ghia, found this pic some time ago here on The Samba, but have no idea where it is located.
Not sure where the engine would be located, probably a mid-engine or standard rear mount.
I have this as my desktop background pic, just because it looks so SWEEEETT!

I recall seeing a thread a while back about a guy who claimed to be building it based off the picture. I don't recall if it was here on on Shop Talk Forums. If true, I would love to see the build thread.
I'd pay a dollar to see it in person

EDIT: I noticed I had already made very similar comments in one of the threads john listed above. I apologize for the redundant redundancy. _________________ “…It's not just about what's interesting. Was lead to this car from the interview with Exner’s son pointing out that the low hood with protruding fenders design feature came from cars like the Cisitalia. |

I saw this Borgward Isabella in an old junkyard today & instantly recognized those body lines.
